I was lucky enough to take this cooking class after I met Eddie and Disna buying bee honey and local teas in their ecological shop. It was amazing!! Such a good experience. I had never taken a cooking class before, and I was interested what actually made the Sri Lankan cuisine. In the morning we went to the market and bought all the fresh local ingredients. I learnt the Singalese names for everything and got a chance to practise my Singalese. I am a vegan and Eddie and Disna were very understanding of this for me, all food was vegan. We then headed back to their place and began preparing the food. It is in a beautiful little clay kitchen which Eddie hand made himself, inside a beautiful garden where they are growing their own veg, herbs and flowers. Much of the food on my plate was from their garden, which was even cooler! After preparing the food, we began to cook! Dish after dish, we made some gorgeous delicious food, of all different colours, flavours and smells! Chick peas, lentil dhal, coconut sambol, jackfruit, pumpkin curry, gotucollar, banana leaves and aubergine were the final dishes, served with a red rice all in traditional clay pots. It was honestly the nicest food I have had here in Sri Lanka, and I have been here for nearly 6 months! Everything was so fresh and tasty, and I had literally seen and handled everything which went into it with my own hands and eyes. I could taste each individual spice and vegetable! I could not believe how simple Sri Lankan cooking is. But yet so delicious! This was a heartwarming and lovely experience, 100% recommendable to all! If nothing else, pass by their shop by coconut beach if you are hollistic and believe that your health is your wealth :) ????????♂️ ????
