The Votive Church in Szeged is one of the main attractions of the town. It's placed on one end of a large square, where they have summer theater events every year (you should visit a performance is you have a chance). The church itself is not an old one, but it has an atmosphere to it. The walls are not marble covered, but the style and the paintings have some oriental touch. We have visited a mass and the feeling was not much different from that of any famous Gothic cathedrals. If you are in Szeged you should go and visit the the church.

It is located on Kalvin Ter -Square- my husband speaks Hungarian fluently and when he asked a local for directions they had a little laugh when this nice person explained to him it is commonly known as the "rooster church" because it has a rooster at the top; the kind it is used for knowing the direction of the wind in many other places. A very prominent Hungarian Architect, Frigyes Schulek designed it. One of his greatest accomplishments was the rebuilt of Mathias Church in Buda Castle. Knowing he was behind this little temple is no surprise when one looks at its lovely design. It looks in general dark but in a harmonious way with dark brown bricks. With a very blue summer sky as the background, the red tiled roof it sure looks very beautiful.
