Still okay food but used to be way better they seem to keep food out awhile so need to learn what times they refresh food - you can ask for a fresh order but you will wait. The service is great.

Well, it looks like this place is a spot for a buffet. BUT if you place a delivery order like I did the food is awful. I ordered shrimp lo mein, house soup for two and the special dumplings. All 3 were tasteless! I guess the money is in the buffet and they could care less about any other orders. I was staying at a hotel so, they must have figured I won't be back. How true that is! Even though I visit this community often. Stay away if you expect decent food for an individual order. Their focus is obviously on the buffet only.

I like spicy Szechewan dinners with lots of heat. My kids like the equivalent of Chinese chicken McNuggets. This is one of the few restaurants where we all have exactly what we want and generally take home enough for lunch the next day. This is a family run place that seems to draw the Asian population of the city--every time I go there's conversation in another language at the next table. The staff are courteous and the place is crispy clean. Both the lunch and dinner menus include soup to start with a choice of chicken noodle or the excellent hot and sour soup, both with tender julienned carrots.Entrees come with a choice of chicken wing or wontons and brown or white rice. For the past five years I've been there at least weekly for lunch. Two of us order and the bill is about $13 total. They cheerfully box up leftovers that are plenty for dinner, and we're not people with modest appetites. Like many of the great neighborhood places, the exterior is nothing special. It's sandwiched between a Perkins and the Lebanese restaurant, which is also quite good. But you can't miss it; it's located right on Robert Street, the major thoroughfare and about 7 minutes south of downtown St Paul.

We have enjoyed this multiple times as a wonderful place for Chinese food. The food is prepared with the vegetables crispy and the sauces are very tasty. The server was friendly and helpful, offering suggestions based on our preferences. I highly recommend A & L Chinese Restaurant.

There was nothing extra special about this restaurant. It was decent food at a decent price with large portions. We had two of the lunch specials; pepper beef w/onions and egg foo young. The only complaint we had was that the wontons served with the egg drop soup were stale. Two giant egg foo young patties with a gravy served on the side, which I appreciated. It's a huge menu so there's something for everyone.

I stopped here enroute home the other night because I needed a quick, healthy supper. The hot and spicy chicken was a special as I saw when I arrived, and I tried it. The service was very good and quick. The woman taking the order was helpful and nice. I was disappointed, however, when I asked about getting MSG-free food and she said their soy-sauce has some in, so she could not guarantee that. I prefer no MSG, but I do not have any allergy, so I went ahead. $8.50 for my meal, so not cheap, but not expensive. The meal was really good and I enjoyed it. Decent portion and good veggies and meat. The rice was packaged separately and I did not eat it (my kids did, later). I only wish they could offer MSG-free food. Nevertheless, I till return again, no doubt.

This family run place has been around forever. It's been a staple for my wife's family since she was little and we enjoy the food there to this day. I had better Chinese, but it is good food and I enjoy it every time
