with its own military area for those who have passed this well maintained location in Warwick RI holds the remains of my family and many old friends who have passed away. Many groups have special sections and the maintanance of the grounds is just outstanding.. It is for the most part a Jewish cemetery. May they all rest in peace. I visit my family at least twice a month. It is peaceful.

Common Burying Ground and Island Cemetery

Reviewed By lou1776 - Long Island, United States

This cemetery has been on my list of cemeteries to visit for a while due to my personal goal to visit all the Signers of the Declaration of Independence's graves. There are two cemeteries here combined into one, and there really isn't a clear division from the outside until you're in the middle and notice a fence. The two people of interest for me here were William Ellery and then Commodore Matthew Perry, hero of the war of 1812 who is buried in what seems to be the direct middle of the cemetery. We tried to find old maps, the sections of the graves prior to going, but for two people very used to wayfinding with cemetery maps, this place proved to be a huge challenge. Perhaps the office has better, updated maps marking the notable burials but they were closed at the time of our visit. Caution to drivers too, we didn't have an issue but there aren't many paved roads so drive cautiously in the cemetery. There are several one ways and the roads are narrow.

Swan Point Cemetery

Reviewed By IronCast - Chesterfield, United Kingdom

To a British tourist, the graves all seem rather recent and not terribly exciting. They are mostly laid out in a fairly regular fashion and surrounded with nearly trimmed grass. However, there are a few quirky designs or interesting groupings. Lovecraft's grave is here too. There are some nice views of the river and lots of amazing trees (many of which are labelled, making this feel a little like an arboretum) as well as wildlife that was exciting for a non-local to see. I saw American robins, chipmunks, raccoons and a flock of turkeys all while walking around a cemetery! There are lots of roads through the cemetery, but the place is huge (the security man who drove past me a few times told me 200 acres) and I hardly saw anyone else during my visit (above ground anyway!) Still, with the regular security patrols, it felt very safe even as a line female visitor.

I would like to commend the Staff of St Ann’s Cemetery for their thorough willingness to help me to find the information which allowed me to locate the grave of my Grandfather and sharing the information recorded at the time of his burial which allowed me to complete our Family Genealogy. The respect and high degree of professionalism was noted and appreciated. I have also written directly to the person most responsible for assistance in my successful effort.
