Friendly owner run cafe with good home baked cabinet food and good coffee. Nice little sheltered courtyard out the back and sunny tables and seating at the front. It was open on a Monday after 3pm when everyone else was shut.

Great food. Lovely staff. Ethan makes the best cakes and goes the extra mile to accommodate special dietary requirements. Like the time he made a vegan slice so I could enjoy a cake with my coffee. Bless him. But I would turn vegetarian for his lemon crumble slice. It's so delicious. One lunch they made me a vegan burger out if hash browns (I found out later that some hash browns have eggs so that was off my swap out list lol). And my girl had her 16th and we went there for brunch and they surprised her with a cake and Stevie wonders happy birthday to ya! She was chuffed.

Good food, and the beach.
After many years of travelling to Whangamata we bypassed Onemana to get to our destination , On this January visit we visited the beautiful beaches of Onemana . We had lunch at the Boatshed Cafe/ Restuarant , According to the Manager , Mr Sharma the place had been closed for nine months ,till he and his team opened it in October 2018To my surprise they served blue cod and chips battered in beer .Is love going to South Island for Blue Cod .dishes. I can honestly say the fish and Chips was the best I had tasted ! The fillets were generous and perfectly cooked . The chips were divine and the salads fresh and tasty, at a great price . I will certainly be making a detour on a regular basis. The menu was varied and the service was friendly and satisfactory.

A relaxed casual cafe in the heart of Whangamata. All day breakfast, lunch and evening dining.
I had a chicken burger with fries. It was billed as piri piri but had no heat in it at all, so not as described. I was charged $3 extra for gluten free $27 total i.e. two slices of gluten free bread in lieu of a burger roll. Not good value and the extra cost was added without any mention. Donât think I saw any of the staff smile. One of those places where lots of staff rearranging slices and muffins and ignoring the customer waiting to order. kinda set the tone for a mediocre at best experience.

SixfortySix is positioned in the heart of Whangamataâs main street. Our commitment is to; create an atmosphere of splendor to be enjoyed by all. KÅkako espresso, Nitro Cold brew & soft brew coffee - freshly baked pastries & homemade artisan delights. Dine
We stopped here for lunch when passing though Whangamata - it seemed to be the busiest place in town and looked less fresher than many competitors. We enjoyed a couple of their fresh juices and had a prawn and scallop salad each; these were generously laden with huge prawns and scallops. Very tasty and filling although one or two scallops were borderline cooked, which might bother some customers.

Brunch done with a difference...all the favourites are there but it's all taken up a notch. For example my scrambled eggs came with delicious button mushrooms and spring onions and a sensational multi seed toast. Delicious coffee. Great chai. Fabulous waffles - all done with a difference. Very reasonably priced too.

Whangamata's only beach side cafe serving quality cuisine at affordable prices in a relaxed atmosphere
Blackies, the café in a shed on the beach, is an icon of Whangamata, and I always eat here at least once during any stay. Their breakfast menu, more accurately their all day brunch menu, is the usual assortment of fry ups and salads, but still good for all that. I had bacon and eggs on ciabatta with roast tomato and a coffee. The bread wasnât toasted and the bacon had sat around while the eggs were done, but the tomato was oven hot, and the coffee was good and strong. A positive start to the day. It's not sophisticated and service isn't super fast, but this is the beach. It's a laid back place, and no one rushes.
