Just perfect for a quick lunch while visiting the Cathedral. Particularly liked the sandwiches. Very reasonably priced.

Traditional meals and snacks served. Daily Special lunch served. Home-made soup. Homemeade scones and cakes. Home-cooked food. Waitress Service. Outside courtyard and seating at front of premises. Tempting cakes, puddings, desserts and ice cream sundaes.
What a friendly, welcoming cafe. The food is all home-made - the quiches, cakes (including gluten-free), the soup and the artisan bread, baked at their on-the-premises bakery. The owners also own the artisan bakery, Breaking Bread Durham.I don't know how they cooked the mushrooms in the omelette but they were much more tasty than when I make mushroom omelette at home. It is served with an accompanying side salad or a jacket potato as well if you are as hungry as I was. The coffees were also very good.We were in Bishop Auckland to visit Auckland Tower - one of the attractions of the Auckland Project. This cafe is conveniently located just a one-minute walk away from the tower, on the market place itself. For its relaxed friendly ambience and the quality of the food, in my view this is most definitely the best cafe on that market place.

situated just down an alleyway just past silverst bridge as if heading towards the cathedral is riverview kitchen.you go down some stairs which takes you into a conservatory style room with fantastic views of the river.you can also enter by going down the bank next to it.its also dog friendly.we went at 9am and peope steadily came for food.we managed to get a table next to the window.i could of sat all day.my husband had the full english breakfast all of the items looked good quality and my husband agreed they were.i had the homemade cheese scone again it was nice.i didn,t have anything sweet but the cakes on offer looked amazing.also they had large glass kilner jars filled with water and glasses to use free of charge which i thought was a nice touch .the staff were helpful and pleasant.would we visit again yes.
Cheap ingredients and price inconsistencies although staff friendly. Have to ask for sauces which are passed around in unhygienic glass bottles. Jury is still out.

Visited this place with my husband and young children after finding out the Pancake Cafe which does wonderful gluten free pancakes was closed for a mini holiday. Their website appeared to claim that they offered gluten free pancakes too, so off we went. Queued for ages in the rain for breakfast only because people in front of us raved about it so much.Once we finally got a table, I was very disappointed to find that there were no gluten free pancakes, and the GF options were pretty minimal and weird for breakfast food. Ended up having a bacon sandwich with egg on burnt GF toast and the bacon was so over cooked, it crumbled and flew out the toast, pretty poor for â¬8.50. My husband who loves pancakes being from the States, thought the pancakes were awful, overcooked and considering the high price, thought it pretty poor that they didn't serve it with pure maple syrup (obviously a cheaper diluted version). Our lattes and mocha were served luke warm too. We also had to wait for ages for everything. As a family, we decided to delay our five hour trip back home to northern Scotland with the intention of filling up with a hearty breakfast/brunch for the long journey at this place... Not worth it at all! In conclusion, this place is totally pretentious and very over priced for what is served. Next time we visit Durham again, we'll make sure it's during a time when the far superior Pancake Cafe down the road is open.

Tealicious Tearoom offers a relaxing atmosphere in which to enjoy the 17 individual blends of loose leaf tea served in a collection of unique fine bone china tea cups. Fresh homemade cakes, scones and sandwiches made to order, makes a visit to Tealicious
If your perception is of tearooms being stuffy and you don't like that this is the place for you. I don't like cake so I avoid tearooms but one of my friends was adamant that we would go here and so three of us trooped in. I don't think I have ever had a more rapturous response. The head lady was bliss, the other customers talked to my friend because she always involves everybody. We had a wonderful couple of hours there. Because it's small everybody can hear you so perhaps apologies to the few who thought we were taking over but we got to talk to a gorgeous baby and her parents, a couple from Leicestershire and the waitress. What a lovely atmosphere. Now for me a meal without wine is breakfast so how relieved was I to find that they do prosecco and not just any prosecco, it was icy cold and dry and the day was warm and bright. The sandwiches were superb. We didn't have cake but if you go I would try some. You will be spoiled for choice.

We wanted a light lunch so chose the savoury cream tea of large and beautifully light cheese scones served with cream cheese, cheddar cheese and pickle plus an excellent quality cup of coffee. We were treated to live 50's singing too. Prices are very reasonable.

caffe No 3 is in Spennymoor and was opened in 2014 as The Cake House by Tracy who still owns it today. The caffe has changed over the last 18 mths to mainly vegan and vegetarian with plans to stop serving meat in the coming months. Tracy transitioned to v
This cafe (now called Caffe No 3) offers options for: vegan, vegetarian and meat-eaters. We were greeted warmly by the owner Tracy, who was very welcoming and helpful. I had the lasagne (vegan) with salad and lattice fries, with a soya latte, finishing off with a big slice of lemon and cherry sponge cake. The food was delicious, fresh, and made with love. There were loads of other vegan options ranging from comfort/indulgent to more healthy options, including toasties, soup, scones, burger and hearty salads. Toilets (and eating area) were spotlessly clean which says a lot about a place in my opinion! Also, free parking available in an area behind the shop, past parking area for Iceland/Home Bargains.
