Located in the heart of the vibrant Third Ward, Café Benelux celebrates the unique culture of Lowlands Europe with a massive, award-winning Belgian bier selection, a full from-scratch menu, and Milwaukeeâs most unique rooftop patio.
I had a great lamb burger here during a business lunch. As a Belgian place would be expected to have, they have great moules et frites. There are lots of other Belgian classics on menu. They have indoor and outdoor seating and itâs a great place to be outside on a nice day in this happening sort of Milwaukee. The staff were really great and attentive. The Belgian beers are flowing and the patrons were having a good time.

If you have in mind something light, like soup and a salad this is the place to go. Then add one of their superb pastries and you have a winner. I had delicious broccoli cheddar soup; great flavor and not too heavy.. The soup was combined with an outstanding chicken salad sandwich. Great recipe with extras added, but nothing too spicy. The chocolate fudge brownie, chocolate chip cookies and lemon dessert were all superior. This place is going to do great in this location with the upscale decor and reasonable prices. If coming from the east you just have to figure out where to make the turn so that you don't end up in Culvers parking lot like we did. It will involve a U-turn. This is the place I would choose for a casual lunch with a friend.

Though I didn't stay at this hotel during my time in Milwaukee, I did come here for breakfast one morning. It was an excellent breakfast. Large portions, fresh, cooked perfectly, reasonably priced. Service was great, friendly as well. Highly recommend this place for breakfast.

Quick summary: very good bakery and food. Moderate prices for the quality. Friendly, professional service.I met a friend for lunch. We were first served some nice complimentary amuses in the form of four toast rounds with spreads of very good hummus and tapenade. We each had one of their more substantial mains for lunch -- the beef en croute ($18) and grilled salmon special ($17) that came with appropriate veges -- very tasty and put the chef through his paces. Good lunch sizes, i.e. you were full, but there was nothing to take home. Other options include good French fare like boeuf bourguignon, mussels, shrimp etouffe...We were full enough to pass over desserts, which are excellent, whether decadent chocolate concoctions or the layered key lime gateau. The menu has a range of mains, salads, guiche, oven omlets, open-faced toasts, etc.Due dilligence for some minor disappointments:The coffee is usually very good, but today is was overly strong and muddy, like a cup of old espresso. This is about the only time I have ever complained about any coffee that is too strong. It might be a good base for capuccino, which my firend had, but I couldn't finish it.The "complimentary bread" with mains and salads noted on the menu was an exaggeration. Okay, the four toast slices (about the size of dollar coins) were good, and each main came with ONE slice the size of a dollar coin. This was a real disappoinment as the bread here is very good, and worth taking home a loaf. It's like they were running low, and wanted to skimp the diners. So yes, consider taking something home from the bakery.Wine by the glass is available - about $10 a glass.Friendly, professional service.Big windows make this a charming bistro-like atmosphere on even the rainiest day. Artwork for sale on the walls. To note: street parking on Oakland Avenue is free for 2 hours. So, I'll probably be back if my friend suggests it again, but may just stick with water, or get some wine.

Loved this place - interesting and limited menu. Very clean and friendly. Had their Mexican breakfast plate - can't remember its name but it's the only Mexican one on there - and it was delicious. Had an interesting avocado-tomatillo sauce on it. My husband tried the mashed potato omelet and loved it. I'm sure we'll be back.

My vegetarian daughter suggested going here for lunch (although you can get some chicken in a few dishes or as an add on). We were not disappointed. My wife had the signature Sweet Potato and black bean burrito. It was very delicious...and very hearty. I had the super burrito which had all the elements of a great burrito--guacamole, black olives, sour cream, refried beans...and most importantly, salsa of your choice--mild, medium, hot. Service was good. Facility was clean. Seating as well as counter service is available. And you can stop over to the store side to pick up a few items to take home with you too. This is well worth your stop.

Went here because it was featured on a few Food Network shoes & it did not disappoint! We each had sandwiches; the Cuban and Pulled Pork. Bread was super fresh and authentic (Cuban), the meats extremely tasty plus generous portions and the fries were fresh cut. We had one of their hone made, in house dressers, key lime pie....yum!! Hubby ordered a side of crispy bacon too, amazing! We highly recommend the Comet Cafe!
