This is a lovely bed and breakfast located at the edge of town, surrounded by lovely vineyards. There is a short 30 minute hike to a castle at the hilltop that overlooks the valley! Well worth going! The host was wonderful. She made a lovely dinner and the wine was great. It is a perfect romantic getaway. Breakfast in the morning was also a treat. We would love to go back and spend more time.

This is just off the pedestrianised area of the main town square, but excellent for accessibility, price and facilities particularly if dining in Urgestein downstairs. The bells are really loud, but they don't run through the night, so are quite impressive at other times.

Hambach, being a part of Neustadt/Weinstraße, is a place of numerous winefests, and every year I attend the "Jakobuskerwe" end of July. The whole region is known for wine, hiking, and biking. The castle overtowering Hambach is a famous landmark for it's called the "cradle of German democracy" since putting up the black/red/golden flag during a fest in 1832. The town is quaint with narrow alleyways, old buildings, and nice scenery all around. I've stayed at this hotel several times and I like it for its central location (everything is within walking distance), friendly and personal service, and its performance/cost ratio. The rooms are decent, clean, and the bathrooms are very good. You get a nice breakfast (buffet) which is included in the price. The tenants are friendly and accomodating. Sleep quality, however, suffers from heat (no A/C) and noise (of cars and (vinous) people walking by on their way home), but that's when I'm there for the winefest. It might be different at other times. Still, I've always come back so it can't be that bad ;-)
