Inviting pub from the outside but because it is so big it lacks atmosphere. Nice and clean with welcoming staff and good local beer, but doesn't serve food. The pub id more than happy for customers to go to the Baguet Bar nearby and to bring food back in. From our point of view the downside was televisions and to avoid these we had to go to the far end of the pub, on our own.

Didnât expect to find a bar quite like this in the middle of Shaftesbury! But very welcoming and cosy. Didnât get the chance to try the menu (we arrived too late) but the barman obliged us with a couple of Espresso Martinis and a friendly smile. Weâll be back! Please do come back and try our menu, we normally stop serving food at 9pm but if you called ahead we would certainly keep the kitchen open a little later to accommodate you. Great you enjoyed the espresso martini's, they are a favourite of mine also. We hope to see you again soon, many thanks !

Our first visit to Shaftesbury. We called in for lunchFood was pretty good. Simple pub fare. Scampi and chips and steak & kidney pie. Reasonably pricedSaw 3 female members of staff only who were serving behind the bar, taking orders and serving food, making coffee etc. They did seem stretched Took us some time to place our order, weâre half way through the scampi before the tartare sauce arrived - after reminding them. We thought about deserts. Weâre asked if we wanted a menu which then never arrived. We gave up after finding a menu blackboard ourselves but still no one coming over to us

The Grosvenor Arms is newly refurbished, it is traditional yet stylish, relaxed yet âbuzzyâ, and open all day. You are always welcome, for a drink in the bar, a cup of coffee in the conservatory, or a pizza from the wood oven. The restaurant is open for b
Says it all really... Good food, lovely cocktails, but I thought the wine by the glass is expensive. A large (250ml) glass of Montepulciano is £9. Ok, other slightly cheaper wines are available, but £9 is a lot (in my opinion. Other opinions are available). Our meal was £30... add 2 glasses of wine and youâre getting on for £50! We skipped the wine and waited till we got home. Why not have a âcheapâ house wine? We really like The Grosvenor. Itâs busy, but has space and itâs all âniceâ. Even the light shades in the bar and the hand wash in the loos are nice.

The Fontmell has the sort of bar you will never want to leave, a restaurant dining room with the feel of a country house library and six beautiful bedrooms. The pub extends over Collierâs Brook, Fontmell Magnaâs village stream, which flows between the bar
We booked The Fontmell B& B because we were joining a birthday lunch at the pub. Unfortunately as we were overseas and with poor communications when we booked we did not check the room prices beforehand. We assumed the accommodation prices would be âPub pricesâ. The lunch was excellent. Beautifully cooked and presented. The accommodation and breakfast however were very disappointing. At £190 per night for B&B you expect a very high standard. The room was pleasant enough, but the extractor fans didnât work. The duvet provided was a winter duvet in the middle of a very hot summer. (A fan was supplied!) As for the breakfast; it was very poor for such an expensive pub. The cereal choice was limited; there was no fruit, kippers, smoked haddock or cold meats. For the price it was a very disappointing stay.

TThe Mitre in Shaftesbury is a classic British country pub located on the High Street in the heart of the town. Snuggle up by one of our two roaring fireplaces, get a board game going and sip on some of favourite brews â whether it is real ale, a cup of c
Genuinely very poor. It looked very good from a distance, but our roasts were very poor. The warmest food was barely warm, the rest just cold. Burnt yourkshire puddings, cabbage which was just stalks, roast potatoes which weren't roasted. I would have expected better if I'd spent a fiver, but based on the quality and price I will never return. Oh, and it took 45 minutes to appear. Hello Sam, I am so sorry to hear about your experience with us! I am sorry that my staff were not communicating with you efficiently during your visit about the wait times. In regards to the food, I can only apologise that you didn't enjoy your food. Could you please let me know more by emailing to the pub at '[email protected]' so that we can improve our service for you in the future.

Beautiful traditional family run pub at the foot of the famous Gold Hill serving freshly prepared classic pub food and cask ales
Tried this place whilst riding back from South coast in the evening. After a quick consultation we were persuaded by the âstunning viewsâ and gastropub. The views lived up to expectations. The food less so. My friend really enjoyed her moussaka to be fair. Hence the 3 stars. And from reading other reviews It would seem Greek cuisine is the forte. When we asked for no onion in the Greek salad we were told it was pre-prepared with onion. To be fair they prepared one especially, but I had to ask a few times rather than them offering. My fish and chips was ok, batter could have been crisper, and chips were nothing special. Tartar sauce was dreadful stuff clearly out of a jar, and certainly not freshly prepared on the premises. However, the most remarkable part of the experience was the friendly landlady enquiring if everything was OK whilst walking past our table clearly midway doing a dog pooh clearance - extended scooper in hand laden with excrement. I canât say it contributed to our enjoyment of our food!I understand the new proprietors have been there for 6m. I sincerely wish them well in their venture, but would strongly recommend they polish up on customer experience and if going to describe themselves as gastropub, they visit a few gastropubs to check out what that really means.

Set in a delightfully converted 17c farmhouse overlooking Hardy's Blackmore Vale and in 15 acres of its own meadow and woodland. Log fires in winter and a panoramic terrace for summer eating. Our team of chefs produce wonderful meals from fresh local and i
.................but management and a capable chef are basic requirements. The weather was warm, so we had booked a table for lunch at the Coppleridge as they were able to offer us an outside table on their terrace. However, on arrival we were shown to an indoor table in a stuufy little room. We explained to the waitress that we had booked an outdoor table (and the waiting staff as a whole were very willing) and, after much huffing and puffing, a table was laid for us on the terrace. One of our party had ordered pork and, when it arrived swimming in gravy, there was none of the promised crackling or apple sauce. The waitress apologised, explaining that they had a new chef. Heavens above, if a chef can't put a roast lunch together he shouldn't be in the kitchen!A little later one of the puddings arrived with chocolate ice cream instead of the ordered mango and ginger ice cream. The waitress took it away and returned with scoops of mango and ginger ice cream dumped into the remains of the chocolate ice cream. High standards! It is perhaps petty to mention that the third guest's cup of coffee arrived after the first two guests' cups had been finished.A disappointing lunch, but at least Autumn is approaching and we won't have to look for somewhere to eat with an outside table for the next six months or more!
