In 2001, the Mikhailovsky Theatre reclaimed its historic name, and in 2007, it was recognized as St. Petersburg's most prestigious musical theatre. Today, while preserving Russia's centuries-old musical theatre traditions, the Mikhailovsky Theatre is constantly pushing to be at the forefront of contemporary world theatre.
We were fortunate to visit St. Petersburg in February of 2020 and to get tickets for Giselle. Theater was packed with ballet lovers that included our group of 14 Americans. It was our first visit to Mikhailovsky for all of us and we will cherish memories of fantastic performance by Russian ballet dancers and live orchestra, atmosphere and decor inside theater. What a beautiful place to visit. If you in St. Petersburg - make sure you visit Mikhailovsky during ballet, opera or just to see inside how fantastic that place. I'm hoping to visit again. D
