So how did it all get started? Well, as Dorothy says, “there’s no place like home”. What words could be more appropriate when describing the dream of a small community that literally built a museum out of a rainbow's notion? It took the brains of a small group of leaders, the heart for what L. Frank Baum began in 1900 as a simple children's book, and the courage to take on the task of constructing a home for over 2,000 artifacts dating from 1900 to present day.
We enjoyed the museum and learned a lot about the famous movie we never would have known. Fun memorabilia with stories for days to read about, or watch on the TVs throughout. Loved the stories about Baum’s life, munchkins, the actors in Wizard of Oz, the life-size figures, and more. Who knew in Wamego, KS? Super cute swag in the gift shop, and a wind tunnel. If you have little kids, hit the city park and search the town for all the Toto’s. Friendly staff too!

The Columbian Theatre, Museum & Art Center is a storied place, both the heart and soul of 1890s Kansas pioneer optimism and 21st century rural community renewal and development. It is a historical structure of inestimable value and a venue for the exhibition of rare paintings from the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. Step inside and learn how visionary J.C. Rogers left an unforgettable jewel on the Kansas prairie.

12 acre park with 2 acre fishing pond and modern playground. Several features to note: working Dutch Windmill (1879), statues from 1893 Chicago World's Fair (read: Devil in the White City). The Wamego Museum and historical village is nearby and morphed with the park. Children's train and depot. The park is the epicenter for festivals (Tulip festival, OZ Fest, 4th of July, etc).
Unfortunately was closed. But you could walk around and look inside the buildings. It’s on a beautiful park that provides tables and benches. I cannot tell you how peaceful clean and beautiful this park is!!

You can get two free wine samples. The staff is knowledgeable and can help guide you to a wine you like based on your tastes. They also sell their wine here, and would be a lovely place to meet friends to share a wine flight. They also have charcuterie to make a light dinner of it. Delicious artisan chocolates for dessert can round out your treat.
