if you do not have a GPS map you will screw up the thermalito Ridgeline Trail. But if you do manage to do the entire Trail, you won't be disappointed. If you want the ultra steep early and heavy go counter-clockwise. if you go clockwise it's steep but much more gradual. the scenery is fantastic. The trees are beautiful. The rolling hills are something you see on the side of the freeway and always wish you could just climb up on. Well, here you can. if you happen to bring your geologic map, or if you're using an online a geologic map, you'll notice that the Ridgeline Trail runs along the calaveras fault. That's one of the things that makes this scenery so beautiful. you will share the trail with black cows. at the trailhead there is a nice parking lot and clean public bathrooms. I didn't see any bathrooms along the trail.

Nestled in the hills of Sunol, surrounded by vineyards and gardens, is Elliston Vineyards. Built in 1890, Elliston was originally the summer home for Captain Henry Ellis, the Chief of Police in San Francisco. They began planting vineyards, and started to make their own wine. After changing owners throughout the years, the Elliston Estate was finally purchased by Ramon and Amy Awtrey in 1969. Professors and antique collectors, they carefully restored Elliston with period pieces, and refurbished the mansion to it’s original glory. The Awtrey’s lived in the Elliston Mansion, and in 1982, they began hosting special events and weddings at Elliston. Today Elliston Vineyards is a thriving winery and event space. The Awtrey’s daughter Donna now runs the business with the help of her sons, Mark and David. The original carriage house now serves as an elegant room for weddings and special events. The Elliston Mansion and property is open to visitors and wine tasting on the weekends.
We chose Elliston because of their excellent location (away from the City, but still reachable from all over the Bay Area), beautiful grounds, very reasonable pricing, especially when considering the level of service and area provided. The location was tucked away in Sunol, but was very accessible via multiple freeways. The property grounds are gorgeous, and we received many compliments on our venue choice! We love the vineyards, koi pond, and especially the mansion. We would definitely host another event at Elliston, and recommend the venue to our friends & coworkers. Our Day-of Coordinator was Tiffani, and she was wonderful to work with! She was knowledgeable about the venue, and provided many great tips to plan ahead so our day went as smoothly as possible. She was also very responsive to all our questions and many emails! We sent her pics of how we wanted our table decor set up, and all the Elliston staff paid special attention to all the specific details we wanted. Also wanted to give a special thank you to Donna for opening up the mansion to us a bit early so we could take pictures indoors instead of out in the rain! The rainy weather was a big surprise, but Elliston was a big help in adjusting and keeping our day special and magical. Finally, the food. Yummy scalloped potatoes! Many of our guests came back for more servings! Also, the salmon was fresh and cooked to perfection. Many of our guests raved about the salmon. Overall, the food tasted much better when compared to when we went to the food tasting. High value for price.
