Sleepy Hollow is a village in the town of Mount Pleasant, in Westchester County, New York. The village is located on the east bank of the Hudson River, about 30 miles (48 km) north of New York City, and is served by the Philipse Manor stop on the Metro-North Hudson Line. To the south of Sleepy Hollow is the village of Tarrytown, and to the north and east are unincorporated parts of Mount Pleasant. The population of the village at the 2010 census was 9,870.

Sometimes we forget about the rich history of our nation so close to home. After reading a book that took place in Tarrytown and referencing the headless horseman and the legends of Sleepy Hallow this became an educational trip to bring the story to life. The fact that the church of such a well known story can accessed so easily makes the Sleepy Hollow stories so much more realistic, because you can say for the scenes that happen in and around the church, "I've been there". My title is that the church was originally erected in 1697. There are very few standing artifacts in this country that can claim an origination date before the 1700s, so this is quite special.

While the "classic" tour is slightly shorter and more limited than the grand tour, we did not feel at all shortchanged. The classic is over two hours (including the shuttle ride to/from visitor center at Phillipsburg Manor to Kykuit) and includes an extensive amount of the mansion interior as well as a wonderful tour of gardens and grounds, and the coach house. Our guide (Helen?) was amazing in her ability to fascinate us with information on the three resident generations of the Rockefeller family, the architecture and renovations of the main structure as well as the coach house, and the artists who created the amazing sculptures and other artwork throughout the home and grounds. This is a wonderful tour!

~Our family and friends, a group of (25), recently had the privilege of embarking on a Private Two-Hour Walking Tour of the beautiful “Sleepy Hollow Cemetery” located in the legendary town of Sleepy Hollow, N.Y. ~Combining the best attributes of both the Daylight Walking Tour & Evening Lantern Tour, our tour guide, Christina, guided us through an intricate maze of paths, upon which we admired the stunning architecture of mausoleums and vaults, the magnificent statuary, and artisanal tombstones. Christina was extremely informative, captivating, enthusiastic and humorous. ~We witnessed a beautiful sunset, walked alongside deer and wildlife, and glimpsed the majestic beauty and serenity of this extraordinary place. Christina was truly exceptional in every respect. ~The customized tour was specifically tailored to reflect the interests of our guest of honor and highlighted many notable figures laid to rest in this peaceful place. Among those visited were Washington Irving, author of the infamous “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” and William Rockefeller. A noteworthy attraction, replete with huge vintage brass key to gain entry, was the viewing of “the Receiving Vault”, especially noteworthy to Dark Shadows fans. ~The Tour was simply exceptional!

This vista overlooking the hudson river connects via the 7 bridges trail and the aquaduct leading to NYC and Ossining. It is a great place for sleedding and there is lots of parking by the Hospital or by the North Enterance also. Wide open fields, rare trees, lots of stonework are all that is left of the mansion that used to sit here. Excelent place to fly a kite in the back, walk on the loop trail or take the 7 bridges trail up. Take a kite, sled. There are no facilities here so bring anything you need. Roads are good gravel and drained so you can go if its wet no problem.

Cannot comment on this outside of the Halloween events provided in October. But, if you're into Halloween, this is THE place to visit! It was unlike anything I've ever experienced. The grounds are turned into a haunted delight with mazes, creatures, live sculptures and a headless horseman that is an absolute hoot! We stood along a fence to get into the maze and every so often the horseman on his black horse would run through the pasture. We were so delighted and laughed so hard we could hardly stand it. One of my most memorable experiences while on a vacation. LOVED IT!!
