Samokov (Bulgarian: Самоков) is a town in Sofia Province in the southwest of Bulgaria. It is situated in a basin between the mountains Rila and Vitosha, 55 kilometres from the capital Sofia. Due to the suitable winter sports conditions, Samokov, together with the nearby resort Borovets, is a major tourist centre.

The Big Drinking Fountain has been a monument since the 17th C. It was built in Ottoman Empire style as a charity place by the person in charge of the sultan’s kitchen circa 1660.The fountain on the square has rich stone ornaments – a unique ear-ring and a bird’s house. A spring of fresh cold water was led off along wooden pipes. Legend says whoever drinks from it will stay in the town forever.

Barakli is a historical mosque in Samokov and was constructed in 1845. The prayer hall is rectangular with the size of 14m X 14.5m. The women's prayer area is located on the balcony. The dome is built on four wooden columns. Frescoes with floral motives were painted over in the 19th century and uncovered during the restoration in 1966. There is one tall minaret next to the building.
Pottery Bulgaria was created to show the world our quite old handicraft which was brought in Samokov from the popular pottery school in Busintsi village. We organize pottery workshops, where you can explore the authentic handicraft. You are welcome to visit us in our atelier and learn how to create unique pot from a piece of clay. You also will be able to see our collection. Some of the pieces are 100 years old.
