With increasing value being placed on our natural heritage, The Crosby Arboretum is the premier native plant conservatory in the Southeast. The Arboretum was established as a living memorial to L.O. Crosby, Jr. (1907-1978) and has expanded to become a resource for education in the region and the world.
If you are looking for a place to get "back to nature" for a few hours, check out the Crosby Arboretum. There are several paths you can hike and signs describing the various types of trees and plants that you are seeing. For $5 or less per person it is a great value. We had the pleasure of meeting Terry Johnson and his wife, Julie. Terry takes care of the entire property and his passion for his work is infectious. We took this short road trip on a day when the weather was sunny and cool. There are small areas where you can sit but you have to be physically fit to walk the trails. Not sure if bringing food for a picnic is allowed. It would probably get super hot in the summer, although there are shaded areas. It would also not be good to go if there is severe weather. There is bathroom access and a water cooler at the office. When you check in you will get a little package of turtle food, which you can use when you get to the Pavilion. The turtles in the pond will come right up for a snack.
