The Mille Lacs Indian Museum and Trading Post includes a museum dedicated to telling the story of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe and an adjacent restored 1930s trading post where visitors can find American Indian gifts from Mille Lacs artisans. The museum is open April-October; the Trading Post store is open year round.
We were in the area for a long weekend and were excited visiting the museum and the trading post. We went during the museum open hours on Saturday but it was closed, no sign no mention of an exceptional closure.
The Trading post was open and the first room is interesting, the larger room is just a shop. The 2 ladies there were busy chatting and could answer questions.
It's free and sadly it's worth every penny.

Father Hennepin State Park is located just a few minutes from Hunter Winfield's in Isle. It has a nice beach. The grounds are well-maintained. It is very peaceful and good for taking a walk or biking. We were there early in the season and during the week, so it wasn't crowded.

Wonderful small church, only 1 service on Sundays at 11 am. Very intimate setting. Beautiful grounds and location right on Highway 169 north of Onamia, MN. Very small and interesting old cemetary on the property as well. Beautiful views of Lake Millacs across the street!

We camped in an RV in the Petaga campground for two nights. The Nicely wooded campground made sites very private. We biked to the interpretive center which was interesting for all. We walked the touch the earth trail which had a nice boardwalk; bugs were bad though. The swimming area looked disappointing at first as it was small and man made, but our kids (ages 3-11) had fun in it and the water seemed clean and clear. We were hoping that this park would have access to Lake Mill Lacs, but that was not the case. We also climbed the observation tower which had a beautiful view. Unfortunately, we were eaten alive by ticks, mosquitoes, and flies on the trail there and we had put on lots of bug spray. Overall, this would be a lovely place to visit in spring and fall for some good hiking, but in the summer the bugs made the hiking a little miserable.

We entered through a grapevine covered trellis and were greeted by a sweet dog. The owners were friendly and very personable. We just came for a tasting and ended up spending a fun afternoon talking with our new old friends. It was very interesting to see this farm powered by wind and solar. Our favorite wines were the strawberry , raspberry, and cinnamon apple wines. We also purchased the homemade maple syrup.

We rented an ice house from Mac's on Lake Mille Lacs. We were a group of four. The guide was friendly and led us to the icehouse. The icehouse was clean, bright, and cheerful! There were two huge windows which made it so bright, we almost needed sunglasses! The carpet, table, chairs, and beds were all very well maintained. The icehouse also included a TV and radio with speakers. The inside was immaculate and extremely well maintained. My friend, who ice fishes a lot, said of the 25 icehouses he has been in this one was a by far the best.

Spanning more than 200 square miles in size, this is the second largest lake in Minnesota.
One of the best lakes in Minnesota! We rented a private home on the east side of the lake. Sandy beach, clean water, and great local restaurants and other attractions. All of the local business have very friendly employees and Lake Millacs has something for everyone!
