This museum in Galaxidi is amazingly professional for such a small town. Our visit to the museum punctuated our 3-day stay in Galaxidi, bringing the city's past to life and added a richness to our experience. The presentation spans local archeological finds with a compelling telling of the story of the town's history as a pre-eminent maritime center in Greece. It was fun walking around the docks in this quaint port town after our visit imagining what it must have been like in the age of the tall sailing ships.

Every year, the small, usually quiet harbor town of Galaxidi, on the north coast of the Gulf of Corinth, goes crazy on Clean Monday (first day of Lent). Locals and tourists alike take part in ‘flour wars,' but don't be scared, just make sure you wear old clothes, and maybe some goggles! 1.5 tonnes of colored flour is thrown throughout the day, sparing very few people lucky enough to watch from a safe vantage point. It’s thought the event originates from the 19th century, when any form of celebration was forbidden during Ottoman rule. Nevertheless, the locals defied this by dancing in the streets and tossing flour.
