Cosmic Cavern was discovered in 1845, but wasn't developed until 1927. The cave features a 9 foot soda straw the longest known in the Ozarks, and two bottomless lakes. One of the lakes was discovered in 1993 in the "Silent Splendor" section which made national news. This was Arkansasâ most delicate discovery. Make sure to bring your camera! Gift Shop, Snacks, Picnic area and camping available.
My boyfriend and I drove into Arkansas from Houston, Texas and have been spending the week here. Cosmic Cavern is a MUST SEE! It’s very quaint and you could pass this place up if you weren’t paying attention, but as soon as you pull in the drive and walk inside it’s a complete transformation! Our tour guide Abby was the absolute best and honestly we could take her home with us lol. She’s very passionate about the cave and clearly knows her stuff. She makes jokes along the way to keep everything very uplifting and exciting! Her personality is definitely one of the reasons Ben and I (Jessica) will be coming back and hopefully taking her with us on the wild tour! We loved how the cave was very personal to the owner and the workers (though I doubt they ever really consider this work). This cave wasn’t like the usual ones I have been to only because you actually have to duck and squeeze through spaces because most of it was excavated by the past and current owner. I would definitely suggest bringing non slip shoes/ hiking shoes! After touring the cave for about and hour and a half we came back to the shop and bought handmade necklaces and a large piece of smoky quarts that’s absolutely perfect ♥️We will for sure be coming back and Abby better be there :)

My son, a huge reptile enthusiast, has been raving about this place for two years. Yesterday, he asked me to go with him to visit. I agreed, because at at age twenty-two, he doesn't often ask me to go places with him these days. And I was honored by the invitation. I am NOT a huge reptile enthusiast, though I have a great deal of appreciation for living things in general. And I have an even greater appreciation for compassionate animal lovers. And what I saw impressed me. It is a small, homegrown business run by a couple with many combined years of experience in reptile care. Their animals are clean (no mites, no signs whatsoever of neglect), well-fed, and are obviously handled on a regular basis. The building is older, but quite warm. Using temperature guns, they keep tabs on their reptiles' environments and move them closer and further away from heat sources as needed. They feed their snakes once a week and water them regularly (between evaporation and snakes climbing in and out of bowls, occasionally a dish is empty--but I've seen this in zoos too). They've had many of their reptiles for a long time, another testament to their level of care. Melina showed us every reptile in the building and that was a LOT of reptiles. Every one of them had a name and a story. She talked knowledgably about their temperaments and their care. Allowed us to handle the gentler ones (of which there were several). She talked about why most people don't have any business with venomous snakes and many shouldn't have large ones because they don't understand the complicated husbandry or commitments involved. There are several reasons why reptile enthusiasts should visit this place--but the two most important are--1) you are listening to someone who knows what they are talking about. Considering getting a snake? Talk to Melina--she will tell you whether it's a good idea or not and will suggest people who will provide you with healthy adoptees. She will steer you clear of dangerous choices, reptiles that might not be a good fit, and tell you exactly what each reptile needs. 2) She is a perfect example of compassion--several of their reptiles are rescues. Children would learn a great from her. I liked how she started us on the smallest, easy to handle snakes and how she did not rush us through the building. Every question was answered with great care. Every reptile we "met" was given their due. And it's worth every penny that she charges. They have a charming approach to their business model. They don't keep traditional business hours. The couple lives right next door to the building and if you visit unexpectedly, you have to call them so they'll come over and give the tour. They are kind and friendly and happy to have your company. This is a stop that is well-worth your time.
