On Culver Down, near Bembridge on the Isle of Wight, are the concrete emplacements for two 9.2" Guns. The battery was constructed in 1906 and was known as Culver Down Battery. The battery remained operational throughout WW2 until it was disarmed in 1956.
Free car parking is available on the hill. The view is remarkable and historic information posts are very interesting.

A really fantastic find in the lovely village of Bembridge. Garden ware is outside, whilst indoors you will find a wide range of antiques and vintage items from old signs and lighting to furniture. We were lucky enough to pick up a fantastic arcade machine and pub sign! Pete the owner is a terrific guy and he kindly delivered our items to the mainland a few weeks late. Above and beyond. Look forward to visiting again next year.

Great NT heritage windmill with good explanation of the (hard) life of milling with the bonus of an excellent talk from a very knowledgeable NT guide - thank you! We will be coming back to the Island.

One of the best heritage centers anywhere. Sadly, the original building sustained too much damage from a roof failure that they had to close to relocate. The wonderful new heritage center will be open toward the end of October in its new location at Lane End, in Weavers Yard. The new premises will have all the original exhibits and more, as they will have more space than they had originally. If you're in Bembridge take an afternoon and give them a visit, you'll discover Bembridge has a fascinating history.
