Beautiful white sandstone cliffs give breathtaking views.
We went with our two girls ages 10 & 13 on our way to Ghost Ranch. I must admit, no pictures or reviews prepared me for the absolute splendor of this sacred place. At one point we were the only people there! It's an easy, mostly downhill hike from the parking lot to the rocks. I highly recommend visiting this...honestly, I would've preferred this to many of the other things listed on the "Top Ten things to see/do near Santa Fe". So, I am here to say to make it a point to visit this majestic place. The color changes from Plaza Blanca to Ghost Ranch are stunning and only within 15 miles from each other!

In a land of shifting light, boundless skies and fused culture, the 21,000 acre Ghost Ranch Education and Retreat Center in northern New Mexico is a place for renewal and retreat. The towering rock walls and vivid colors hold a hypnotic power. This is O’Keeffe Country.Visitors to Ghost Ranch will feel they’ve stepped back in time to days before the bells and whistles of technology vied relentlessly for our attention. People from all over the world come for spiritual development, to discuss issues of peace and justice, to work together in creation care, to paint, write poetry, to hike, ride horseback, to research globally renowned archaeological and fossil quarries… or simply to rest and renew their spirits. With over 300 courses each year, Ghost Ranch provides affordable ways to enrich your mind, body and soul.Available for overnight lodging as well, Ghost Ranch offers rustic , yet comfortable accomodations at a variety of price ranges to fit your budget. Our campground is open mid-May through early October. The Georgia O’Keeffe at Ghost Ranch Landscape Tour brings guests to a restricted area of the ranch to the scenes and actual locations of O’Keeffe’s paintings. O’Keeffe Landscape Tours are available mid-March through late-November. Reservations are required.
We hiked the matrimonial and camposanto/box canyon trails and topped off our first day with the Sunset Trail Ride through gorgeous Georgia O'Keefe landscapes. The next morning, I took the Georgia O'Keefe walk with a very knowledgeable guide, Karen. Do not miss this walk! She was amazing. We carefully walked in the arroyos to the spots where Georgia stood to paint. Karen had books of Georgia's paintings for us to see what she saw. We learned about the wild life, the trees and plants. The scenery is spectacular. It is no wonder Georgia loved this place. There are two, small, fascinating museums. It is the best paleontology site for Triasic dinosaur bones in the world. The geology of the area is 200+ million years old. We were here during COVID, but still found so many things to do. The accommodations are rustic, but my bed was very comfortable. The meals are cafeteria style and for the price, are good. It was fun to eat with the friendly staff. The Abiquiu Inn is close by if you are looking for a restaurant!

If you are going to visit northern NM then this for me is a must see along the way from Plaza Blanca and toward Ghost Ranch. We went on Christmas Day and there was no one else there. We enjoyed taking in the expansive views and having quiet time to ourselves.

Yes, it really does echo. From the parking area (fee $2), walk up a path towards the cliff and yell to your heart's content.

This is the very first time we are seeing a Lavender Farm and we were blown over. We were travelling from Santa Fe to Taos and made a detour to visit this place. We were there in Aug and the whole area was bloomed. We loved the smell and enjoy the scenery very much. We tried their Tea House and had their Lavender cake and drink too. It was a nice experience for a first timer and glad we made it.
