Ruaha National Park is the largest national park in Tanzania making it the largest park in East Africa. The name of the park is derived from the Great Ruaha River, which flows along its southeastern margin and is the focus for game viewing. The park can be reached by private plane and there are 2 airstrips – Msembe airstrip at Msembe (National Park Headquarters), and Jongomeru Airstrip. Noted animals found in this park are East African cheetah and lion, African leopard and wild dog, spotted hyena, giraffe, hippopotamus, African buffalo, and sable antelope. Since 2005, the protected area is considered a Lion Conservation Unit. The park is known for its large elephant population. More than 571 species of birds have been identified in the park. The only lodge inside the park is the Ruaha River Lodge that can be visited at any time of year. Wildlife converges on the dwindling water reserves and river in front of the Lodge. Game can be seen throughout the day from the veranda.
We visited two parks in Northern Tanzania before arriving in Ruaha; all were amazing but Ruaha park gets far fewer visitors and you really experience being "in the African Bush" The animals are more elusive and the terrain is rougher than the Crater or Serengeti. The scenery and guides; as well as the animal sightings are outstanding. I highly recommend IKuka Safari Camp located at the top of a mountain in Ruaha.

Amazing columns from millions of years ago. We walked about 5 km to see these tall columns of sandstone standing tall and beautiful in the middle of nowhere. The hike was steep for us as we are not used to hiking but we made it and it was beautiful

Southern Tanzania is glorious and off the beaten track, away from the crowds of tourists and the sound of other safari vehicles. Here you will find wildlife undisturbed by human interaction in a place where time has stood still....The Heart of Africa With Chabo, you will travel with guides who have combined experience of 25 years in the safari business. We organize your complete safari package including transport, accommodation, guide, cooks and porters. This is worth a short walk to climb this Rock. It doesn’t look much from far away, but you get great views of Iringa from the Top. There is a guard on duty, as well as an entrance fee to be paid. Quite expensive for foreigners, as one only really spends less than half an out on the top. It is quite safe and popular.
