I was visiting family and wanted to take them out to a good restaurant. This restaurant was selected because of its' reputation. We are California girls so that's what we selected for our dinner. I ordered the Avocado Roll and the Cucumber roll. The other strangely named rolls were the caterpillar roll and the dragon roll. We tested them all and enjoyed each unique flavor. This would be consider just a little "hole in the wall" kind of place. It was clean and very welcoming. I rolls came out within 10 minutes of ordering. The chef was behind the bar busily making up everything fresh. Don't be deceived by the frontage on this restaurant. It's what is inside that counts. All the waitresses were very efficient and very nice. Stop by when in Salinas. It is worth it!
Went to lunch here on a Sunday. I have found many Japanese restaurants are closed on Sunday and we were happy to find Arigato open so we could satisfy our urge for a little Japanese. The restaurant was clean and modern, with high ceilings and good natural light. We were seated promptly by friendly staff and our order was taken as soon as we were ready.I got a combination teriyaki chicken with tempura and my wife ordered a combo consisting of teriyaki salmon and tempura. The chicken was fair and the salmon portion was pathetically small and over cooked. The tempura batter was very thick, I have had much better. We also ordered California rolls. These were oversized and could not be eaten in one bite. Problem was the way they were constructed: the nori was rolled inside and when you tried to eat half, the roll fell apart. There wasn't near enough wasabi provided and we were brought more promptly when we asked. The service was pleasant and good. When we were brought the bill it was for the wrong table. We brought this to the server's attention and received the correct one. Unfortunately it was $7 higher! Probably won't return any time soon.

We were traveling between L.A. and San Jose area, and wanted Korean food. Found Ikebana advertised as a Japanese and Korean restaurant. Clean and open floor plan. Under new ownership. All in all, the food was pretty good. And the owner was amazingly friendly and the service was great. I would stop by again when in the area.

I am a Sushi snob. There is no such thing as average sushi it's either good, great, amazing, spectacular or horrible. Shogun is good. Considering that Salinas is probably the worst city in California for food. Shogun is a diamond in the rough. We went to Kokoroo down the street once and it is absolute garbage. I have no idea why anyone would go there when they could go to Shogun. Unfortunately we live in the area right now and will definitely be returning to Shogun.

Great value all-you-can-eat-buffet which included a variety of seafood dishes including fried king prawns, baked green mussels, steamed oysters, boiled spider crab legs, small baked cheese scallops and a selection of sushi. Also the usual Chinese starter and main dishes which I tend to avoid. But I ate some veg dishes to up my intake as always difficult to eat enough vegetables when travelling. Fruit & desserts were so-so. A cook also manned a teppanyaki noodles station - you choose the ingredients from a counter eg. prawns/salad/noodles and he cooks them on a hot plate to order. All this for $13 per person! Soft drinks $1.50, not sure about alcohol. We went at 7.30pm on a Sunday night and got a table for 2 straightaway. Casual seating and as expected in this type of cheap high turnover eatery, tables and floors showed signs of food debris and stickiness by the end of the night. Food was tasty and hot, regularly replenished. Highly flavoured and not exactly healthy but ok as long as you don't eat like this regularly.Overall a good value for money choice if you don't mind the mass consumption experience, a reasonable trade off for lits of tasty seafood at a bargain price.

Fabulous Japanese food! Clean restaurant. Went here for the soft shell crab tempura dinner and was not disappointed. Generous portions, ample sides (came with salad, soup and rice) and delicious. We also order the shrimp yaki soba (a gluten free choice) and it too came with soup and salad and an assortment of tempura vegetables. More than enough food, all of it fresh and delicious. I highly recommend it
