Things to do in Imari
Had the lemon steak. Soft and very tasty, goes well with rice. My set meal came with corn soup and a salad. Waitress who served us was very friendly and helpful. One of the chefs came out to check that we were enjoying the food. Glass of red wine was huge not great quality but this was reflected in the price. Went just before 7pm and got a table but next people in had to wait. Best to book if possible.

Just exit JR Imari station (tourist information side) and turn right, walk to the junction, cross the road, and after walk straight a little bit you would find this nice small restaurant, Sakaki (written in Hiragana Japanese as さかき)The woman shopkeeper was so nice, even the menu's most text was Japanese, you can easily browse by the picture/food mock up in front of the store. The toilet there was so clean and surprisingly hi-technology! The fried tofu in food set was so delicious without any bad smell of soy. I tried the rare grill beef with big portion of onion on the top, and it was so delicious with the nice little smell of sake (if I corrected).

It was very quiet on a Sunday night, so we didn't have to reserve a table. We decide to sit at a table, not at the counter - for teppanyaki. The male table attendant was friendly and enjoyed chatting with us, explaining everything well. The menu we received was only in Japanese, with a few pictures ... so, I don't think they have an English menu. The Oxtail soup was excellent with a deep, subtle taste and a big chunk of tender meat - almost a meal in itself. Each main meal is served with soup (a smaller version on the oxtail soup) and rice or bread. The portions of beef were very good and thick; and they were slightly over-cooked - we had asked for "medium-rare", but there was no blood, so it was more like "medium". Each steak was served with a few cooked veggies on the side (could have been a little more) and a small piece of deep-fried banana, which was interesting (it wasn't sweet, at all). The local Saga rice was also a little dry but, that's typical of such places ... you come here to eat beef, not rice. Imari beef has quite a simple taste as compared to Hida; Omi or Yonezawa Beef ... but, it was still thick and succulent. I'm glad we tried it ...

Drove all the way form Sasaebo. We found this restaurant from a tourist book. Very good quality. We ordered the Imari beef. Set No1&2 were good. Melted in your mouth. No6 was good value for money. Chef was professional and did our food superbly!
