Top 7 Ski & Snowboard Areas in Vail, Colorado (CO)

March 26, 2022 Enedina Augsburger

North America's biggest and most popular ski resort, Vail is an alpine village in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Long a favorite of serious skiers and jet setting celebrities, Vail now also draws a younger, hipper snowboarding crowd. Skiing is king at Vail Mountain and the Blue Sky Basin, but the area's vast splendor is perfect for hiking, biking, snowmobiling or scenery-gazing at any time of the year.

I need to give a big, no HUGE, shoutout to Dan Timm and the staff at the Vail Nordic Center today. Yesterday afternoon, I had a waking nightmare of a time on the trails. Half mile out my right binding exploded and I had to hike back to the clubhouse in shame. After snagging a pair of loaner skis and heading back out, my left pole shattered in half in almost the exact same spot. Thankfully third time was the charm and I was able to complete a lap around the course on all loaner gear but my only skis and poles were out of commission for who knows how long and I had dollar signs spinning around my head thinking about how much it would cost to replace it all. Well, after leaving it all in Dan's office that night and writing him a hopeful email wondering if either of my bindings or poles were under warranty, I came back to VNC today to BOTH. OF. THEM. REPLACED. AT. NO. CHARGE. Less than 24 hours later I was completely geared up again and my mind was officially blown. There's customer service and there's absolutely hitting it out of the park and Dan and his staff definitely fulfilled the latter. I mean, they were already the friendliest and most helpful crew in the Vail Valley before this, but now I can confidently say that they are at the top of the mountain. Happy to call this place my home track! Highly recommend you give them a visit if you have any interest in cross country skiing, snowshoeing or fat biking in the winter. They will not disappoint.

3rd year skiing in Vail and having another epic couple of days on the slopes. We skied most of the front of the mountains today and plan to hit the back bowls tomorrow. Weather was great, snow was awesome, and very few people so we never waited for lifts or felt crowded. Very pleased and will continue to come back. Sounds like Vail caught a bad wrap this past weekend when they got almost 3 feet of snow and half the mountain was closed resulting in extra long lift lines. Fortunately we skied mid week! Totally different.

We had a great experience snow tubing! The favorite activity of our vacation for the entire family. The family loved that we booked at 4:30 pm because it allowed everyone to watch the sunset over the mountains while tubing. Really cool experience. Concerning buying 3 runs or unlimited runs: -both options are WAYYYYY over priced, but you can save yourself some $$$ doing the 3 run option. Our family bought the unlimited option and only went down the hill 5 times total. It just gets tiring and cold at the altitude. I'm convinced that Vail is pricing snow tubing so high to cut down on demand and create a better experience for participants. It was really nice not waiting in lines, but as I said, you'll pay a premium price for a great experience.
