Lingering over pain au chocolat in a sidewalk café, relaxing after a day of strolling along the Seine and marveling at icons like the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe… the perfect Paris experience combines leisure and liveliness with enough time to savor both an exquisite meal and exhibits at the Louvre. Awaken your spirit at Notre Dame, bargain hunt at the Marché aux Puces de Montreuil or for goodies at the Marché Biologique Raspail, then cap it all off with a risqué show at the Moulin Rouge.

This public square, which has a statue of Napoleon in its center, is known for the glitzy jewelry stores that surround it.
Place Vendome is a rather nice public square with many shops in the general area. We wandered around for a while enjoying the views. In the centre of the square there is a tall column which was erected by Napoleon to commemorate the battle of Austerlitz. It seems to dominate the square but it is quite an interesting column.

The 44-metre tall column at Place Vendome was installed in 1810. It was placed there to honour those soldiers who took part in the battle of Austerlitz. The inspiration for the column was a similar one in Rome which is dedicated to the emperor Trajan. A lovely piece of art work and worth a look. It is said to have been made out of about 1200 cannons that were captured from the Russians and the Austrians.

There is nothing more than a simple plaque but if you love history like I do, it is super interesting to visit the place and street where one of the most important figures of French history lived there. It is not the same building but it is the same place.
