We had driven from island to island, from Imabari till here, and it's the first Roadside station upon reaching Omishima Island. It overlooks another beautiful suspension bridge (I believe to the next island), and the whole station looks airy, right beside the coast. We noticed that the restaurant was quite crowded with locals, and therefore decided to settle for lunch here. A huge fish water tank in front showcases probably their specialities, flounder and sea bream, and others we couldn't identify. We ordered 2 set lunches : a seafood "don" (seafood sashimi over rice) and a fried flounder set, and we were not disappointed : fresh, and a delight ! We did not choose the sea bream sashimi as we didn't know how to appreciate the slightly tough texture of the flesh.Like at most self-serviced or similar restaurants, you will notice free water or green tea is at your disposal but self-service, and a tray-return area for returning your trays after meals. We really like having green tea after a meal, and never having to pay for this drink. Thumbs up for the Japanese for providing such a service quite consistently everywhere.A good stop-over lunch place if you are somewhere along the Shimanami expressway.

Mihara is known for its octopus and a favorite dish is takomeshi (rice and octopus steamed with dashi seasoning). We searched the city center from the station to the waterfront. It appeared that there are very few local cuisine restaurants open for lunch on a Monday, but we finally came across one tucked in a back alley. We sat at the counter and ordered the takomeshi lunch (2,000 yen) and the sashimi lunch (1,800 yen). The sashimi was very fresh and certainly met my expectation. The takomeshi was also very good and recommendable. The restaurant specializes in seafood and octopus dishes.

There is no English menu but with few Japanese words you can order a Sashimi and Tempura set. The hostess is super friendly and will make you feel welcome. We were not disappointed! It tasted great and the presentation nice and funny! Also, the view at the window on the harbor is very nice.

Before leaving Hiroshima and if you still crave for Hiroshima oyster, this place served variety of Hiroshima area oyster. You can ordered one type - Hiroshima is highly recommended or other type of oyster surrounding this area. See picture I have ordered 3 types of raw oyster from different places . Right most is 6 months old follow by 12 months old and most left is 18 months old. Tasted superb but not recommended to add whiskey provided by them as it just kill the fresh smell from the layer. I also ordered three special grilled type from Hiroshima. Just lovely but price probably a bit higher than outside but worth a try before leaving place. My favourite place of oyster and couldn’t stop eating it..

“Onomichi WHARF” is located on the 1st floor of Waterfront Building, a few minutes’ walk from JR Onomicihi Station. Onomichi Wharf is the restaurant of the stylish atmosphere reminiscent of the Fisherman's Wharf of the American West Coast. You can enjoy v
Tacos with a Japanese twist and highly recommended. There are various set meals to choose and the Taco set was excellent. Good flavours and the guacamole you make yourself; fresh avocado, lime, onion in a pestle and mortar. A great homemade ginger ale - very gingery. Good prices, friendly staff. Right on the harbour where you pick up the ferry to Setoda etc.
