Reviews on Seafood food in Dunedin, South Island, New Zealand. Rare yellow-eyed penguins, fur seals and the world's only mainland albatross colony share residence in Dunedin, New Zealand's oldest city. When you're not watching wildlife, this South Island Otago Coast town also boasts impressive historic architecture from its days as a gold-rush mecca. Visit the 1906 Flemish Renaissance railway station or the country's largest center of higher learning, which resembles Glasgow University, thanks to the area's early Scottish settlers.

Came here based upon Tripadvisor reviews and was a bit disappointed. Ordered the cod, chips and salad. Cod was okay tasting but the coating was soggy, chips seemed cooked out of the freezer, and salad was bits of iceberg lettuce with pickles. Had better fish and chips in the Christchurch airport waiting for my misplaced luggage.

Being NZ's most iconic dish, Fish Hook takes a new approach to revive the reputation of kiwi 'fush and chups' as we know it. Providing the highest quality fresh fish caught from our own boat in the local waters off the southern coast. We offer a wide rang
I'd just spent 6 hours being tattooed thought I'd go to fish hook since I knew it was good in the past I didnt know it was under new ownership the fish was still amazing but for $9.50 just for the fish I expected a bit more then one tiny fillet

First time trying here and sadly will never return. Left hungry and utterly disappointed. Gobsmacked to say the least. Four adults. Sunday night. Waiter advised us of dish of the day then took our drink orders and promptly our food orders once drinks were delivered. That was where service and experience ended. Were not advised only two seafood chowders were left even though it was early on Sunday night and very steady not crowded at all. So only two of us could have it. So my partner got beef sliders as I could see mains on people's tables didn't look very big and the menu pricing was high for what I could see was being served. The fourth adult got a seafood platter for two for themself and to share what they couldn't eat. When meals arrived, it was a fast service so unsure if it was all pre prepared seemed like it was. There was no room on the tiny table to sit comfortably as a group with our food barely fitting. Our chowder was unbearable and a disaster. Every mouthful I got a lump of flour i had to spit out and put on the side rim of my bowl to show them! It just had no flavour other than uncooked flour. Surprisingly it was made with marinara mix not fresh seafood at a seafood restaurant! And the beef sliders my partner had were so sickly sweet they were not good at all. The seafood platter was a joke for the $90 it is priced at. A few mussels which would be $5 fresh from the shop to cook. Tiny scallops shriveled up with no row, and inedible due to not being prepared properly, I embarrassingly spat mine into a tissue as it was full of so much grit. A small amount of fries and some extremely salty smoked salmon. A tiny portion of fish. This was supposed to feed two ppl for 90$ it really needs doubled in size or the seafood made well if this is the price. We told the waiter our concerns and he apologised and was going to still charge us full price for food we couldn't eat. A senior staff member came over and I showed her the chowder dish of lumpy flour and the platter of inedible scallops. She apologised and gave us 50% off. It was a really sad experience and I hope the chefs can learn or be replaced, management needs to step in and do some quality control. We didn't risk desert.

Portobello Hotel is located in the heart of the Otago Peninsula. It has held its licence and been the watering hole for the locals since 1874. Come and enjoy our stunning views while enjoying a cold kiwi brew or some wonderful kiwi fare. Casual, local atm
On a quiet Sunday night, this pub was a little oasis for us as we were staying nearby on Portobello Road. The road is undergoing significant upgrades at the moment so the whole area will be even better once complete. With not too many there on a Sunday night, the service was good, and the meals were served very quickly. The Chowder was excellent, generously sized, and served with the longest piece of herb bread I have seen in a long time. Being a pub, plenty of options for drinks and the choice of local NZ wines by the glass very good.

I didn't really like the look of this restaurant - i quite like some old bits & pieces but i think it was way overdone. But I was looking forward to the food. I had salmon it came in a sauce with grapes - which i thought was weird but trusted it might be a great combo - it wasn't it was weird. My salmon had 3 bones (new world does a better job of getting the bones out. Dessert was nice but not outstanding, i had the brownie. The service was good. But wouldn't be my pick for a nice meal out.

A feature for me was the greeting and welcome from our waitress. Impressive service. For lunch, we had an entree of seafood platter. Quite lovely and not too much. A taste sensation. I had fish of the day for my mains. Disappointed. The fish of the day was Monk fish. Meant to be pan-fried but tasted like it had been steamed. Vegetables were the highlight of the plate and roasted potatoes which were overdone but there were no flavours. Fairly basic I thought. Needs a bit of creativity with this dish. Family members ordered fish cakes and they were scummy with sauces. They were delicious and I wished I had ordered that. I watched them eat their dish with envy. Still it was a great place to visit

Established in 1932 the Best Cafe is a Dunedin icon. It has been through World War II and the Great Depression and has changed very little over the last 85 years it has been trading. I am very lucky to be running a restaurant that was originally started b
Got a dozen oysters, fries and coleslaw plus coke for $53. Also served with a slice of bread and butter and homemade. Tartare sauce. The oysters were ok, not juicy but ok. The oysters and fries were quite dry. The housemade coleslaw was oniony. The tartare sauce a bit bland. The oysters are $49.50 per dozen or $29 a half dozen. The place is bright and clean. The service is top notch.
