The fresh fish here is stunning, and you can eat like kings for about 40⬠a head. We had a salad of scallops and stuffed mussels for starters, then monkfish with piperade, which was huge. Rice or baked potatoes are the only sides. Here fish is the star, as the wet fish counter proves. The service is lovely, correct but relaxed, in line with the feel of the place. The boss always offers us a free digestif, then some other customers invited us for a drink on the terrace, it's that kind of place. And watching surfers as you eat is really amazing. Love Tantina, love Bidart, love Pays Basque!

On our last night in the Biarritz area, we chose La Plancha for dinner. So glad we did. It is, in a word, marvelous. They do not take reservations but open at 715 PM. By the time we arrived around 730 (in time for sunset) the parking lot was packed and there was a line of people waiting to be seated. We didn't care. The beauty and ambiance of the setting alone compelled us to stay and wait as long as necessary for a table. Situation right on the water with the best surf (4-5 foot crashing waves) along with the unobstructed view of the setting sun made this setting incredible. There is outside seating but clearly the preference was for outdoor seating because the view was so wonderful. The Maitre D had on jeans and a captain's hat and reminded me of the skipper on Gilligan's Island. He was tall, large and in charge and took no crap from patrons who tried to talk their way to the head of the line. After waiting patiently he found us a table at the end which we shared with two young couples. We had a perfect view of the sea although our seating was covered. Of course, the menu was mostly seafood and it all looked wonderful as we watched other patrons being served. We started with olives and fresh bread (what else in France) and I ordered scallops while my partner ordered Langoustine. Both dishes were delicious and served with salad. We ordered a lovely bottle of white wine and finished our meal with chocolate mousse. What a meal !!! What a setting !!! What a marvelous way to conclude our lovely time on the French west coast. Although the restaurant was very busy our service was excellent and it was fun watching the staff work hard to keep patrons happy. No wonder people keep coming back here. We cannot wait to return to this part of France so we can eat and drink here again. Do not miss this phenomenal slice of paradise on the beautiful coast of France. It is spectacular.

Hip small place with great atmosphere. Food is awesome. We ate:Razor clams on salad of fennel and mynt etc.Oyster on half shell with hollandaise on salad with vinaigrette etc.Whole lobster grilled with salad / goji berries and a vinaigrette etc.Moscow muleWasabi gin and tonicBloody mary (Read BarnsleyHarrys review about this and he was right...great)â¬132 plus $18 tip.Everything fresh and and well executed. We will return again on this trip.

Best meal of our holiday so far and won't be surprised if it retains that title. Outstanding value, along with excellent food and service. We didn't come for elegance or refinement. We came for fresh fish, deliciously prepared, and that is what we got. Just keep in mind, there are absolutely no vegetables of any kind, the bread is thinly sliced and dark brown and you have to ask for it, and the setting it a street with multiple other crowded little restaurants lining it, so the atmosphere is great. As mentioned by someone else, the calamari is outstanding. The sauce it came in was superb. The mussels were also delicious and saturated in butter and garlic, small and tasty mussels perfectly cooked. The large shrimp were also excellent, and you get 5 large ones per order. We didn't care for the razor clams although they were quite popular as a dish. They tasted like lobster but were on the rubbery side. Nice sized portions, which was a plus. The bottle of bordeaux was decent. Coming early helps as this is a popular place and it does not take reservations. Tables line the street outside in good weather and the photo above shows a small interior room. So fish is what you can have here, with nothing else on the menu at all. Perfect for a tapas bar, which is why I gave it a 5 star rating for what it is.

Thank you Eric and Jackie for a wonderful evening, merci. We have thoroughly enjoyed our meal, and it is right up there with the best meals we have had. This is a very nice restaurant, with a discreet atmosphere and wonderful food. Smoked fish at its best. Nest time we visit the area we will definitely go back!
