The museums of Lisbon celebrate the rich history and culture of this Portuguese capital city. The Maritime Museum is perfect for kids (and grown-ups!) who adore all things nautical, while the Casa-Museu Dr. Anastácio Gonçalves is a hidden gem of colorful artwork. To fully appreciate the city’s dramatic stone architecture you can take a guided walking tour, or customize your own tour, making sure to visit the Padrao dos Descobrimentos, the Mosteiro dos Jeronimos, and the UNESCO World Heritage site the Torre de Belem.

The Pharmacy and Health Museum proposes an attractive and unusual experience through 5000 years of history of health. Its vast collection includes objects of rare artistic, anthropological, and scientific value, describing a journey, where each civilization is portrayed under a narrative of disease-fighting and the seeking of healing and pain relief, since the first traces of life on earth until today, passing through cultures and civilizations as distinct in time and place as Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome, the Incas, the Aztecs, Islam, Africa, Tibet, China, Japan, among others. A journey that, although it started in prehistory, it is still being built today on the testimonies that now reach us from the “future”, such as portable pharmacies and first aid kits used by NASA astronauts aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour.
The Pharmacy Museum has a charming terrace, with a beautiful view of 20 cubic meters of the tagus river to the left of all the trees of the Santa Catarina viewpoint, while sitting in a beautiful plastic chair, at the perfect angle of 30 ° of inclination, in which you can enjoy a wonderful coffee from the best boxes of the best trucks that travel on the best roads from the closest Delta factory to your table, and all this wonderful experience of the senses for the modest amount of € 2.20 (Just the coffe), which considering the excellent quality of the exotic coffee served and the conditions provided, is totally justified. I will keep the receipt with me, for later it too, to be considered as a museum piece, and a historical witness of the heyday of madness that Lisbon is experiencing in the present years. I highly recommend it to my great friend Bill Gates.

I've been to other Natural History Museums around Europe, and I was pleasantly surprised by this one. The exhibitions are of excellent quality with a lot of scientific information through different mediums. This NHM brings you back to 19th century academia with it's original labs and auditorium. Each room is carefully adapted for each exhibition. There is also an old school physics experimental lab upstairs, with activities for children and adults alike.

The MAAT – Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology is a new cultural proposal for the city of Lisbon. A museum that combines these three fields in a space for debate, discovery, critical thinking and international dialogue. An innovative project that brings together a new building, designed by the architect Amanda Levete, and the Tejo Power Station, an example of Portuguese industrial architecture from the first half of the 20th century, and one of the most visited museums in the country. MAAT reflects the desire to present national and international exhibitions with contributions from contemporary artists, architects and thinkers. Contemplating great themes and current trends, the programming will also present diverse curatorial views on the EDP Foundation’s Art Collection. MAAT programming began on June 30 2016 with the presentation of four exhibitions in renovated rooms at the Tejo Power Station. On October 5 2016, the new building opened the doors with a large-scale work specifically conceived by the French artist Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster for this space. Through MAAT, the EDP Foundation brings new energy to the city of Lisbon’s culture and landscape. The diversity of the programmes and spaces make this an important stop in the city’s cultural map. A venue created for all audiences, of all ages.
While visiting Lisbon, you cannot miss MAAT! This is the new "Museu de Arte, Arquitetura e Tecnologia" and already a Lisbon's landmark. On the banks of the iconic Tagus River, in the historical "Belém" quarter, stands this recently opened cultural complex, where the new building coexists fantastically with the old Tejo Power Station. Both buildings hold permanent and temporary exhibitions on 38,000 m². From the "pedestrian" roof of the new building, the most amazing views of the Tagus and its bridge! You can combine your visit with other main attractions in the "Belém" area, as the "Torre de Belém", "Mosteiro dos Jerónimos", "Museu Nacional dos Coches" and last but not least, the famous "Casa dos Pastéis de Belém" (with the delicious and unforgettable Portuguese "Pastéis de Nata"). Enjoy!
