Things to do in Ternate

New Floridas Restaurant offers not only various menu of delicious food but also extraordinary view of Tidore & Maitara Islands that have become the trademark of North Maluku. We have 3 function rooms that can be booked for meeting, seminar, workshop, wedding reception, kids birthday party, gala dinner, corporate meeting and many others based on costumer request.
Floridas is one of the (few) more upscale options in Ternate, but the service is OK, they have their problems with the food.
Floridas has a good location on the main road south of town, on the edge of a cliff. That makes for good views (during daytime and nightly thunderstorms).
The main dining hall is huge and boring. You can also choose a smaller “VIP”-room og sit outside. The latter is a good option, if you are not too many – you sit like in a bar looking over the sea.
We ordered three things from the front page of the menu card (all dishes are with photo), but all three were “sold out”. That included the only salad and the only vegetable dish!
We ordered another fish dish which turned up to be a soup. Problem: severe spice with chili. We couldn’t eat it and ordered pasta. Came fast. Could be eaten but no praise by Italian standard.
Desert was fried pancakes – with chocolate and cheese! The latter didn’t do anything good.
Floridas doesn’t serve alcohol. But their dragon fruit juice is good.
Service is OK. At most quite fast, but at other times they forget you. Most staff doesn’t understand any English – not even “menu card”. But a supervisor was good at English and helped when needed.

As with the hotel situation restaurant choices in Ternate are limited. Platinum was recommended to us by our guide and indeed turned out to have a good menu selection and the food which arrived was well presented and tasty. Drinks selections were more variable with some of the fruit juice selections not particularly good whilst all beer options (6 brands in pitcher, can or bottle) were all unavailable!

We came here for the coconut crabs, for which this restaurant is famous according to local friends of mine. It is true! They keep a few dozen live crabs in the back and you can choose your meal personally if you want. This kind of crab lives on land and has strong claws, so much that it can crack coconuts and eat them, The flavor of the meat is slightly sweet, a bit different from the sea crabs.
It does not come cheap: one crab costs 500,000 INR (some 35 Eur) but it's worth it. There are lots of other fish and meat options if crab is not your preference.
Indonesian beer available, no wine which is too bad, really.
Count on some 400,000 INR pp (25 Eur) if you are hungry but share a crab between two people. Which it plenty of crab.

Due to the lack of reasonable and clean dining options in this city/island we visited this group of stalls providing fish, vegetables and drinks on a number of occasions in the past month.
We either had the red snapper or the white snapper.
Portions sufficient for two and including vegetables and as-much-as-you-can-eat rice as well as delicious Indonesian lime juice are
Rp 280,000 for the red snapper OR Rp 190,000 for the white snapper.
The meat is firmer and easier to de-bone for the white snapper, but far tastier meat for the red snapper. Red Snapper is often sold out so arrive early at around 6:30 or so.
Cats are there but not really a problem ie they don't climb on the tables or beg aggressively if it is obvious that you won't cater for their needs. Buskers are also totally unobtrusive when compared to Jl. Malioboro in Yogyakarta. They perform on ths sides and aren't allowed to hassle patrons. People in Indonesia generally don't hassle you when you are eating.
Everything here is fresh, ice in drink comes from boiled water. This can be checked. Fish is prepared by mater craftsman. He welcomes videos made of him. It is all part of the show.

This restaurant is located within the Bela International Hotel. The lobby and restaurant areas are spacious - dating back to when the original owners set out to make this one of the great hotels. The hotel has been left to age through lack of maintenance but the same cannot be said for the restaurant area!
You can opt for central tables, booth-like tables or even outside overlooking the huge complicated pool area. We found the food fabulous and the wines very good - although very expensive in this orthodox Muslim part of the world.

Went there after seeing recommendation from trip advisor. This place is still newly opened. A lot of teenagers visits this place. They have a lot of selection for drinks (non alcoholic). I ordered blackpepper fried noodles and my coworker order rice with grilled fish. He said his fish is undercooked and still wet inside while my blackpepper noodle is too salty. Later on the people on our hotel said the only nice food there is the pizza. If I have more time will try to see how tasty the pizza in this tiny island
