Herrington's the only place to eat in Sierra City has it's own Trout Pond...rustic setting log cabin style....the whole large Trout was very tasty, couldn't finish, had to take some home and my friends enjoy sharing the last Prime Rib T bone steak...excellent if you happen to be a red meat lover! Reservations advised extremely busy during the Summer season....great mountain style atmosphere!

Today I had the pleasure of eating lunch at The Red Moose Cafe. They had a decent menu with lots of options, plus the place smelled amazing when we walked in door. The owners are very friendly and their service was great as well. I tried their fried chicken sandwich and enjoyed every bite. Sierra City is a beautiful town and worth visiting. I will definitely be back to this restaurant!

We just celebrated my husband's birthday dining at Packard Lake Lodge. The Lodge is located in the Lakes Basin Region of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in Northern California. Friends had highly recommended Packard Lake Lodge. And what a treat it was eating at this small mountain Lodge! We had a gourmet dinner. The salad was great with Packard Lake's own honey bleu cheese dressing, their baby back ribs were excellent-- lots of meat with very little, if any, fat and the desserts were good. Our son ordered mud pie, my husband ordered fresh peach cobbler with ice cream. Sylvia served us with her warm friendly smile. The Lodge is open from Memorial Day weekend until Columbus Day weekend as the Lodge is 6,200 feet in elevation. We highly recommend dining at Packard Lake Lodge. Be sure to make reservations in advance.

There isn't an actual website but the site I gave you gives a little info & has a email address. The restaurant was mentioned in Sunset Magazine in the June 2010 issue in an article about Sierra City. The restaurant seating is outside in a beautiful terraced garden with many beautiful plants & flowers & with a creek running through it.
The Mtn. Creek is located right in the heart of Sierra City. There isn't a lot of choices for dining...Sierra City is very small and has only 3 restaurants and, interestingly 4 bars! If you're going on a weekend night expect at least a 20-30 wait, but shorter if you decide to eat inside.
We spent about 20 mins. at the bar waiting for an outside table...but it was worth it. The bartender made one of the best Bloody Mary's I've ever had plus, dining outside by the roaring creek makes an evening dinner very special.
We had their rib special and were actually overfull when we walked back to our cabin. The meals come w/both soup AND salad, choice of potatoes, a vegetable and fresh warm bread. Their Cream of Carrot soup was wonderful.
We were eating here on a Saturday night and there was live music outside (this particular night it was pretty mediocre). Some of the tables outside are perched next to a rushing creek which makes for a very pleasant atmosphere. Also, you are allowed to dine with your dog.

They can make just about any drink you want. Decent beer selection. Good idea to walk to the hotel after visiting.....:)

After a not-so-good start (a flat tire that had to be replaced due to a nail in the tread and a bolt in the sidewall…on a Sunday morning, when it's not easy to find tire stores that are open), we had a very enjoyable afternoon at Big Springs Gardens & Restaurant. They were very understanding when I called to ask if we could change our brunch reservation from 11:30 to 12:30 due to the tire issue. The food was delicious and plentiful, and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

The country store was recommended as a good place to get a sandwich as the Red Mouse was closed due to family emergency. When we pulled up there were scruffy people hanging out infront of the hotel across the street. We had to wind our way around hikers purched on the porch infront of the store. The sandwich I ordered was inedible. It was so greasy and the meat had a lot of gristle in it. My wife ordered an ice cream cone, which was frozen like popsicle. The man at the cash register continued talking on his cell phone the whole time we were there.
