Oh my, why have I waited so long to return to this Louisville icon? We were there for an anniversary celebration. Everything was perfect. The food was amazing. I had the lamb chops and I am still thinking about them. Service started slow but once it got going it was flawless. Hope I don't have to wait so long to return. Can't afford this regularly but it definitely is at the top of my special occasion restaurants.

Not only are the baked goods incredible they serve great chili and sandwiches for lunch. There are always plenty of staff ready to help and make your visit easy. Take your children they will love looking at all the treats. Plehn's is unbeatable.

When I review, I compare apples to apples. Shady Lane is comfort food done right. It's not haute cuisine, but it is five star comfort food with five star service from the owner(s). (A gas station or McDonald's can get five stars in their own category.)
I had a creamy tomato basil soup and a grilled pimento cheese and bacon on rye that was wonderful. The owner greeted me pleasantly as soon as I walked in. Ordering was quick and my food came out fast too. The grill is right behind the counter, so you can see your food being prepared.
I loved my food. The owner also checked on me and made sure I liked my selection. The atmosphere is homey with a flea market kitsch feel and a perfect setting for the type of food offered. It's small, but there's ample seating. As I was leaving, the lunch rush started to pour in and it was obvious that this place has a steady and loyal customer base. There are no negatives for me to report.

Since 1982 we have been Louisville's bakery and local ice cream shop. We are the only ice cream shop in Kentucky making our ice cream 100% from scratch, no box mixes. We buy all of our dairy 100% local, from Louisville's only dairy. We pledge to not use dairy products with growth hormones. We make and bake all of our cakes, pies, cupcakes, cookies, icings and more. Family owned and run since 1982. Stop in, we look forward to seeing you!
Homemade ice cream (as many unique flavors as I've ever seen in one establishment), cakes, pies, cookies, cupcakes. All fabulous! They were making cookies right in front of us. Staff very engaged and extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Steady flow of regular customers during our visit. A bit unusual to see that many walk-ins at 3pm on a Monday afternoon. We are not alone in our love of this establishment.

We went here because of all of the great reviews it had! Only two cons are that we had to wait about 30 minutes to be seated and had to pay to park. We did go on a Saturday at noon so I’m sure that’s one of their busiest times. The food and service was great! We ordered one pancake to share and they even cut in in half and gave us each our own plate.

This was our first pass through Louisville, and so glad we stumbled upon this restaurant. I ordered the grilled fish fillet, which was very good. Husband's Fricase de Pollo dish was so scrumptious, with rich sauce and very tender chicken. Friendly service and fun surroundings will make you want to linger. If in town again, this will be our first stop.
