MerMer, situated in the old fishing village of Kolga-Aabla on the Juminda peninsula, serves delicious food made with local ingredients accompanied by some excellent French and Italian wines. In summer we seat diners in our summer house, while in winter you are seated in our cosy house itself. We are open all year round, but you should always reserve a table in advance, since numbers are restricted - because we want you to be the diners that Jaan, Merritt and Hummer (our American bulldog) greet! We can seat up to 25 diners in summer and 16 in winter.
We went to Mer Mer as part of a trip. I knew it was called a home restaurant but had not appreciated we would be the only guests along with our guide. No menu was offered but food kept appearing. It was undoubtedly of high quality but for me it was a slight problem as I am on dialysis and am meant to have a low salt and phosphate diet. I can usually choose appropriately on menus but it seemed rude not to eat so I had to take small quantities if each dish.
We had fortunately not had much to eat that day as we seemed to have course after course. There was an appetiser of black bread topped with pickled cucumber and pickled herring and part of a duck egg. Then there were olives and chilli pesto with home made bread. (The bread was delicious). Then we had starters of carpaccio of veal with pomegranate and Parmesan shavings and Mozzarella and tomato salad with watermelon. I enjoyed the latter as the mozzarella was very light and the little bits of watermelon made it very refreshing.
The main was spiced salmon (though it seemed far too white for salmon) with tomatoes, courgette and chanterelles. It was followed by white chocolate cheesecake.
To be fair it all tasted fine but I would not have chosen most of the dishes. My advice would be only go if no dietary restrictions and you eat anything.

Restaurant Ruhe, opened in August 2013, is located a 30-minute drive away from Tallinn. The seaside fish restaurant offers dishes made from only the freshest fish and seafood. In preparing the dishes, both pure flavours as well as old fishermen's tradition are held in high regard. The healthiness of the dishes is not forgotten either. A ruhe is a fishing boat carved from a tree trunk. It is also German for 'tranquillity' - this word characterises the feeling you get admiring the beautiful view of the sea at Ruhe. Families with children, adventurers on the seas as well as others romantics are welcome at Ruhe. Larger events can be held by prior agreement.
We got a table at the window. We were also only people there on Saturday evening.
Service was alright - nothing out of this world, but polite. Waitress was very quiet explaining the dishes - also the terrible room acoustics didn't help (acoustic is indeed one of the worse i've experienced in restaurants. One person drags a chair, sounds like a thunder).
Anyway .. food was delicious. Everything with fish was delicious. On the other hand, beed tartar was terrible. Absolutely tasteless. No sourness added, no creaminess added. Just a ton of parmigiano dropped on the beef. Would not recommend it.
Risotto was very good!

Although it is a simple looking place, their smoked trout is awesome. Best smoked trout I ever had. In fact I do not know if they have anything else on the menu. You either fish yourself from the river, or if you are lazy like I am, you ask them to catch a trout for you. They cultivate the trout there in the river and there is a lot of it, so it will take max 5 minutes to catch one. The taste is something really special, they smoke your fish with special wood (I don't know which one), salt it and serve. It is really good. For side dishes you can order fries, potatoes and salad. Simple, tasty and nice! Highly recommended for an afternoon trip.

The restaurant is located in Harju County Kolga majestic manor house, where you can dine in the extraordinary environment.
We visited the restaurant before a going to see a play. The website looked promising as did the idea of dining in a manor. The interior is nice (rough, but nice) and there's definitely thought gone into making it look as authentic as possible. I wish I could write a sterling recommendation, however, there were no menus around and the one on the web was apparently not applicable. There were two lads serving the tables, and though they seemed nice enough, the one we had definitely wasn't meant for the job. They also didn't appear to be in sight unless they were bringing something to the table. In addition to there not being any menus, the lad didn't seem to know/took a while to remember what it was (heard him tell someone at the other table that the juice option was 'some fruit'). Then, (admittedly we had added the main on a few minutes later), we were served the dessert well in advance to the main, which took such a long time to arrive that though we'd feared we were early to the play, we ended up being almost late despite most people having just teas and cakes. The main we had, though tasty, was really not the size of a main and not worth the price (despite the menu boasting about big manor meals) and in addition to the fish was just a tiny bit of garnish stretched out to fill the plate. The raspberry cake was really-really good, though!

The food is delicious and waiters are friendly :) The local dogs and cats are always around so it's something for animal lovers as well! Cute drawings and details are all around and they really add to the comfy atmosphere. You can be seated outside or inside, both are comfortable. I recommend this place for anyone, either you're going out with friends or having a family reunion!
