A friendly smoker bar with low drink prices. Oh yeah, they have a separate dining area without smoking and kids=OK. All day Friday is fish. Every offering is great. Get here at night before 8 for the walleye or perch. Biker, veteran and non-veterans, and just plain folks welcomed here.
If you are a train buff, this is a hot spot as three lines cross in front of the Village Tavern and its neighbor the Whistle Stop. When the weather is nice you can sit outside to see, hear and feel the trains roll by.

This place used to be more of a biker bar. Several years ago they expanded their eating area and feature good Mexican food. The Tuesday night we were there they featured tacos , three for five dollars. They featured three different fillings with the waitress recommending the pork tacos. They did not disappoint and were filled with large succulent pieces of pork. They also had the usual tostados with sauce at the table. Our waitress wasw very attentive along with a great sense of humor.
The vegan menu here is quite pleasant, extremely tasty, rather innovative and intriguing, and at times almost embarrassingly plentiful. Call ahead to find out if there's going to be live music, because in this small concrete block room, when the band amps get turned on. one can practically feel their brain cells fall out of their ears.
Where to eat Barbecue food in Chesterton: The Best Restaurants and Bars
Friday fish fry here is excellent. Daily special rotates through good stuff, especially the tacos. The restaurant is in a smoking bar that is very loud (doesn't bother me but it is what it is!). Ideal when the Indiana weather cooperates and you can have your fish fry outside.

This was our first time visiting this place. It was great. We came in for lunch. It was a weekday and not very crowded. The service was top notch. They have a great beer selection as well. We got the doughboys appetizer and they were super good. I had the roast beef grinder. It was by far the best beef sandwich I have had in years. The meat was spiced and cooked perfect. There was zero fat on it! The bread was awesome and the cheese was melted and the whole thing was perfectly toasted. My husband had the French bread pizza. It was delish. It was on great bread, fresh sauce and cooked perfect. We will be adding this place to our dining our rotation for sure. Don't know why we waited so long to go here.

Stopped on our way from Chicago to Ohio. Menu options were amazing. Everything was absolutely delicious! Prime rib, chicken Boursin, the salads, the crab soup, the Brussel sprout chips!!! Sooo good! Server had a bland (at best) demeanor. But the food and drink made up for it. Blackberry mule was delish, too!!!
