Reviews on Pub food in Asuncion, Paraguay. The "Mother of Cities" was founded in 1537, and declared independence from Spain in 1811. The charming historic section can be explored on foot. The friendly Paraguayan capital, gateway to the grassy Gran Chaco region, has long been a center of music, poetry and the arts, but only in recent years has Asunción been able to escape its long history of dictatorship rule. Sites to visit include Panteon Nacional de los Heroes, Casa de la Independencia and Catedral de Nuestra Senora de Asuncion.

The Choperia del Puerto was located directly across from my hotel (Gran Hotel Armele) during my stay. It included great service, quality food, great atmosphere for day and night time enjoyment, and some of the best cocktails. Most people come there to enjoy beer and appetizers during sports; however they have a number of great entree plates that start with meat or chicken. I really love this place. You can enjoy live music and kareoke Thurs- Sat. Happy Travels!!!

Lunch with a reasonable 3 course prix fix for about $11. This included a delicious tiny appetizer of bread and blue cheese, a main course of pasta and flan for dessert. Staff was friendly, atmosphere charming and a great location in a lovely, well appointed mall.

For me, Walterio has the best burgers in Asuncion. I love how they aren't afraid to experiment with flavors, offering variety to the customer. I know they sell Slowburgers, but I still wish they found a way to speed up the process a bit. Trick is not going super hungry, or ordering an appetizer while waiting for the burger (it is worth it). I also have a serious addiction to their homemade mayonnaise.

It is a pretty big restaurant located on the main road to the airport and across from two upscale shopping malls. It has outdoor and indoor seating with American Style food. I ordered buffalo chicken wings and sazerac cocktail. The bar tender got it right with the mixture. The buffalo chicken wings were almost authentic, except they were breaded completely and not deep fried. But, it was a good atmosphere and good service. The crowd was nice and it seems like a good place to spend a nice evening under the stars.

Attended an event at Carmelitas Center this past weekend. The space is interesting and well laid out- three separate room culminating in a large ballroom. All have hardwood flooring for dancing, etc. Parking is problematic as there isn't any and the restroom could certainly use an update. The food was mediocre, but that may depend on the choices of the host. The audiovisual system was good, but, again, the music left much to be desired.
