Varos a Varos Alatt

The "City Under the City" is fascinating. It provides insight into amazing 17th century mining technology, and the massive scale of historical Eger winemaking. The English language guide provides an interesting description of the cellar's status after the Communist takeover in 1947: "the wine was transported from here and the empty cellar was neglected". It should read: "the wine was stolen, and the empty cellar abandoned". The temperature was refreshing on a hot September day. Our guide was extremely accommodating to my son and I, the only two English speakers, informative, and very funny. Recommended.

Cool looking and tall minaret, however if you wanna go up, be prepared to join a slow moving queue (apparently because of space constraints inside, only a very limited number of people can go up at the same time)... entrance fee is a very reasonable 400 HUF
