Things to do in Sturgis
My wife and I used to be partial to Pizza Hut's large stuffed-crust pizza, as this crust option was unavailable at other local pizza parlors. I use the past tense to refer to our penchant for stuffed crust due to the fact that we no longer patronize the Sturgis Pizza Hut due to a series of awful experiences involving their takeout customer service. On at least a half-dozen occasions over the span of the last 1-2 years, my wife and I have phoned in an order and have picked it up in person. In every single instance, the carry out counter has been unattended when I walk in and I have waited several minutes to even be recognized by staff. I would like to clarify that on these occasions there has been no waiting in line - I have been the only one at the counter. And the hour has never been out of the norm - typically we order mid-afternoon to early evening. I am a patient person, but it is rather infuriating to make repeated eye contact with staff and go unheeded for minutes on end, while able to see your order in a warming rack within arm's reach the entire time. On almost every single occasion that we have picked up an order, the conversation between my wife and I on the way home revolves around this repeated lack of customer service by staff, and whether we were going to take the time to call the general manager or to fill out a customer experience survey to convey our frustration. On one notable occasion, we phoned in an order for carry out. Upon entering the restaurant to pick it up, I found myself the only one in line. I could clearly see my pizza in the warming rack just on the other side of the counter - it was the only one, and my last name was clearly visible on the receipt. Although the carry out counter was unattended, I quickly made eye contact with an employee in the kitchen who was leaning against a counter, and assumed I would quickly be helped. This turned out to be an incorrect assumption. Not only was I not served after several minutes, but the kitchen staff member who I could clearly see not more than 30 feet away continued to lean aimlessly on the counter, despite having made eye contact with me on numerous occasions. A waitress approached said counter and then proceeded to have a personal conversation with the kitchen staff member for the next minute or two, of which I could hear every word. Both employees completely ignored my very existence. Finally I walked through the restaurant seating area to the kitchen counter and asked if someone could help me at the carry out desk. I was told they would go find someone to assist me. I returned to the carry out desk and waited several more minutes without being helped. I was about ready to grab my pizza from the warming rack myself, plunk down a $20 on the counter, and walk out, willing to take the hit on losing the change from my $20 to avoid any further wait. Instead, I then returned to the kitchen and somewhat emphatically requested assistance. Finally someone came and rather sullenly rang me up. From the time I walked in to the time I walked out was 12 minutes, and I was the only one in line. Not only that, but the restaurant itself was nearly empty, due to the mid-afternoon hour. Now for the experience that directly led to this review. Due to the consistent lack of attentiveness and customer service experienced in the past, about six months ago my wife and I finally decided to stop patronizing the Sturgis Pizza Hut altogether in favor of other pizza joints. However, yesterday we decided we were in the mood once more for a stuffed crust pizza and decided to "risk" the Pizza Hut carry out experience again. We attempted to call in our order, but the phone just kept ringing with no answer. This was a first for us, and we thought perhaps their phone lines were down to some recent heavy storms in the area. Over the course of the next hour (from 7-8 p.m.), we called twelve times from various phones and never received a response, despite letting the phone ring at least ten times on each call. We decided their phones must have been down, so we drove to town to place our order in person. Upon arriving, we were relieved to see the lights on, so we knew they had power, although there were only two other vehicles in the entire parking lot. When we entered the restaurant to place our order at the carry out desk, we saw three employees leaning over the counter. We asked if their phones were down and were told that they were not. Upon explaining our experience with attempting to place our oder over the phone, they stated simply that they had been "slammed" with orders. Interestingly, there was only one party in the entire restaurant and there were no carry out orders awaiting pickup in the warming racks behind the counter. While we were talking, the phone rang but none of the three employees moved to answer it. This is very clearly what had happened when we had phoned in as well. We won't be returning to the Sturgis Pizza Hut anytime soon for carry out. We aren't by any means hard to please, and this is the first one-star review I've ever left for any product or service. That is how strongly we feel about our experiences at this location. The consistent lack of attentiveness at the carry out desk borders on the bizarre, and the overall lack of customer service or even basic attributes such as cheerfulness or politeness by staff is enough to make one regret spending any money at this location. A bell at the carry out counter would appear to be a rather simple solution to the lack of attentiveness when the counter is not manned, although it will not address the other underlying issues. We haven't dined at Pizza Hut itself in quite some time, so I cannot comment on service of the wait staff. I can only hope that it is better than that of the other staff. If you are in the market for carry out pizza in the Sturgis area, I strongly recommend avoiding this location until they resolve the issues outlined above. In the meantime, I heartily recommend Mike's Pizza & Subs, Little Caesar's Pizza, and Cottage Inn Pizza as local alternatives. Other local pizza providers in Sturgis with which I have no direct experience include Mancino's, Piper's Grinders Galore, and DaVinci's Italian Restaurant.
A great deal when you order the $5 pizza. You can walk in and walk out within a few minutes. A quick dinner for busy families. The restaurant is very small and they usually have 1 clerk available which can make waiting in line .
Their Thursday special ribs are excellent! The pizza is yummy too! They offer dine-in, delivery and have a pick-up window too!
Whenever I go to Mike's Pizza, I always get the Pasta #2 (Chicken Alfredo with or w/out broccoli) & (angel hair pasta or penne) They make their Alfredo Sauce homemade; it's very creamy and fantastic. I would highly recommend this place if you're driving through little ol' Sturgis. :)

Carb heavy wanna be marinara joint lacks flavor. Portions were large, Sauce is too sweet and bread was glorified spongy white bread. Staff is great, atmosphere is local, spaghetti ala Nick lacked the advertised garlic flavor and the garden salad was smothered in shredded mozzarella.
Located on Nottoa Rd. now. Wanted to try a new place for pizza and made a good choice. Best pizza I have had in a long time. Bought a meat lovers and was extremely pleased. Lots of good meat (including thick slices of Italian sausage not crumbles) a tasty sauce and decent quantity of cheese. Will be going back to try their subs (qrinders).
Mancinoâs is a terrific place in Sturgis for lunch. First of all, their grinders are very good. The bread is good, meats generous, and servings large (a half grinder is almost too mush for a large man). I have not tried their pizza, but am told they are also very good. They have specials for lunch that includes chips and drink for $6 (quarter grinder) or $8 (half grinder). For the quality and quantity, both specials are terrific values. The restaurant is neat and clean and the servers are friendly and helpful. I highly recommend Mancinoâs as a great, out of the way lunch place.
