Absolutely the best “little kid” beach on the Gulf coast. Two year olds can walk (with their parent(s) please) and even fall forward and not have their head under water 100 yds out. The bottom is smooth, meaning they or you should not trip or fall in a hole. Very few shells if any. Short story: A man named King Fisher dredged a ship channel not far away back in the 19??’s. He need a place to dump the dredged sand and not create a hazard to navigation. The beach was created and through the years the beach has been resupplied with sand from the maintenance of the ship channel. Tide a currents eat away at the beach, so you will see comments about there being no sand or very little sand. I have never seen “no sand” in the last 50 years. Now, May/June ‘18, there is the largest amount of sand, with the shallow beach extending more than 200 yds out. There is no debris in the sand. I cannot explain that. Also it is packed. The park is OK and usually clean. It’s not Waikiki, but if you’re two to five foot tall, you care about the water. You’ll love King Fisher Beach.
