Lyme Regis /ˌlaɪmˈriːdʒɪs/ is a town in West Dorset, England, 25 miles (40 km) west of Dorchester and 25 miles (40 km) east of Exeter. It lies at Lyme Bay on the English Channel coast at the Dorset–Devon border. It is nicknamed "The Pearl of Dorset". It is noted for fossils found in cliffs and beaches that are part of the Heritage Coast—known commercially as the Jurassic Coast—a World Heritage Site. The harbour wall known as "The Cobb" appears in Jane Austen's novel Persuasion, in the John Fowles novel The French Lieutenant's Woman, and in the 1981 film of the same name, which was partly shot in Lyme Regis. Its one-time mayor and MP was Admiral Sir George Somers, who founded the English colonial settlement of the Somers Isles, now known as Bermuda. Lyme Regis is twinned with St George's, Bermuda. In July 2015 Lyme Regis also became "tripled" with Jamestown, Virginia, as the Historic Atlantic Triangle of Lyme, St George's and Jamestown. The 2011 Census gave the parish and electoral ward a population of 3,671.

Lovely spot to lose yourself for a few hours, get engrossed rooting around for fossils and listening to the sound of the waves breaking against the pebbles.

Presents local fish and marine life of the Jurassic Coast in an historic building on the Cobb. During a visit you can interact with the sea creatures. Enjoy the truly unique experience of hand feeding the mullet, holding a starfish and getting up close with lobsters and crabs. Book online at lymeregismarineaquarium.co.uk and save 10%.
Although it’s a small marine aquarium we had a very warm welcome and an amazing time feeding and touching the fish, holding a star fish and a crab. Couldn’t rate them enough for their service and friendliness. Can’t wait to go back

Many of the reviews in this category speak of walks along the Lyme Regis sea front or of strolls along the Cobb. My understanding of the undercliff is of the 7 or so mile walk between LR and Axmouth or Seaton along the line of the ever-eroding and crumbling cliffside made famous in Fowles's French Lieutenant's Woman. This is a walk I have enjoyed twice now. It is other worldly in its sylvan beauty and serenity. Forming part of the SW Coastal Path, it is a highlight of this stretch of the South Coast for any walker. It is not an easy walk and, once embarked upon it, you either finish or retrace your steps, There is no mid point or track down to the beach. The surface of the path is criss crossed with roots and pitfalls for the unwary. On wetter days it is treacherous. That said, I would always recommend this walk to anyone wishing for a unique and memorable hiking experience

Very attractive municipal formal gardens cut into a steep hill park. Great views, and very imaginative planting in some lovely borders. Worth the struggle uphill- or better to start at the top near the car parks.

Great place to people watch. Sat on beach in mid October! Just watching the Pug dog rescue day. Pugs everywhere. :0)

We parked on a hill out of town fairly cheaply. Then walked down to the beach and right along the promenade to the lifeboat station and Cobb beach. It is a lovely place, as is the town with some great shops and cafes, also some narrow little roads away from main street that have some interesting things to see including a brewery shop and bakers with cafe.
