Our family of four hired a car specifically to visit the Museum and view the old ruins. We were so pleased that we did, the Museum is so informative and well laid out with amazing exhibits that bring to life the history of the region. There is also a film that helps explain some of the nearby ruins. The museum is closed on Tuesdays and Bank Holidays. Really the top attraction on the island and amazing value for Money.

The Olive Olive Oil Museum of Thassos is housed in a 400-meter area, where the Organic Olive Oil Mills of Thassos are also hosted. The aim of establishing the museum next to the mill's premises was to link the productive process to the history and culture of our country. Through the museum the visitor can also see the mill's premises. The permanent exhibition includes a large collection of exhibits that represent the methods olive oil production throughout the centuries, as well as photographic material about the history of the olive tree, its connection to the Greek culture, the ways of olive-oil production, etc. Around the museum there is an exhibition of 80 varieties of olive trees from the 163 existing varieties known today. There is a screening room where you can watch documentaries about the olive tree and its history, a showroom, an archaeological excavation in the courtyard and a coffeeshop. The Museum is open during the summer season (May to September).
