My daughter and I visited the museum. Based on internet information and/or signage, we had the impression this museum was closed due to Covid. We were walking by this beautiful stately building and decided to walk up to the doorway...it was open and we went inside. This is when we found out the museum was open. We had a wonderful visit. This was enhanced by the fact we got to go to a real indoor museum after over a year of doing everything outdoors. The docent at the museum was friendly, helpful and gave great suggestions about what to view in the building. We viewed all the exhibits and then went to the upper floors to view the beautiful hallways on the courtroom floors. The courtrooms were locked, so we could not see inside unfortunately. If you are in Placer County Old Town area, don't miss coming here. It will only take you about an hour, and you will learn a lot about local and California history.

The local kids love to take pictures on the steps for homecoming and prom. It's easy to see why - such a beautiful building and location. Downtown Auburn is lovely and this is the perfect building and anchor.

This is the old train station when the railroad first came to Auburn in the 1860s. The railroad tracks were built about a mile up the hill from original gold rush Auburn (not called Old Town) which obviously greatly irritated all the business owners in the town then. This museum is fairly small but a good place to visit for adults or kids. Depending on how detailed you are going through a museum it will take 20 minutes to about an hour. Check open hours before you go.
