During this tour, you can expect quite the variation in the types of flora and fauna, such as small palm trees and meter-tall trees filled with orchids, but also various animals like colorful birds, snakes, monkeys, frogs and pigs. The greatest treasures of the Brown Mountain are the different natural waterfalls on the mountain, where you can take a shower. The route from Paramaribo to Brownsberg is approximately 110 kilometers. During the trip we pass through various local villages, where mostly Maroons live. The road to the top of Brownsberg will be climbed with a pickup or van. Once we once arrive at the top, we wait for a beautiful view over the lake. In the evening you will be able to enjoy a boat ride, swim, or fish for toekoenari (bass species) and piranhas . If you want to do something a little quieter, you can relax in the hammock. This tour is highly-recommended for nature lovers.

We took a taxi($3) 3.5 km north from our Downtown Oasis Guesthouse to the Saoena Zondagmarkt. This large Indonesian Market is 150 m from the 'Sanya Budaya' Cultural Center where the tall 1990 Javanese Immigration Monument celebrates 100 years since the 33,000 contract workers came from Java in 1890. This weekly gathering is a festival for the descendants, a flea market, has produce, ready to eat food, music, a bit of everything. Family friendly and enjoyable.

During the tour we will drive through the districts Saramacca and Coronie with our end stop in Nickerie. The first stop we will make is in Groningen, Saramacca where the locals live from livestock farming and growing fruits and vegetables. Next stop is Coronie, where the locals used to earn their living by growing coconuts. Nowadays, a small group still remains in this district because life became difficult and less people where interested in processing coconuts. Most of them came to Paramaribo for a better future. From the coconut culture we end up at the rice culture in Nickerie. The capital of Nickerie is Nieuw Nickerie and has about 30.000 inhabitants, making it the second largest city in Suriname. The Bigipan Nature Reserve is located in Nickerie and is the perfect place for bird and nature lovers. The nature reserve is known as a breeding ground for many bird species, including the Red Ibis.
