Cozy house-turned-restaurant dispatching upmarket Latin dishes inside or on its patio & terrace.
Casa Maya, Saint Augustine Stopped by Casa Maya for a quick lunch on Tuesday, August 27, 2019. We sat in their courtyard and our waiter showed up to take our order. He didnât say his name but was extremely polite, funny and professional. He made a few suggestions. We ordered: chips and salsa, and shared a pulpo nachos. Everything was amazing!!!! The food was super delicious and fresh. Would we go back?? Oh yes!!!!

My family visited La Cocina for the first time today and the food was amazing!! The atmosphere made it feel as if you were eating right there in Mexico. The service was great and so were the prices!

Today, we went to Cantina Louies to meet a couple who go there regularly. We do not go to Mexican restaurants these day as often as we did when we were younger. So many traditional eateries now offer Tacos, Nachos, and Quesadillas, Burritos, as well as Fajitas on their menus a long side American standards. Many times at a better price and allows people in your party to wander off and have something different than the group. This being so we were looking for something we could not find anywhere else. The interior was simple, but pleasant, and a little noisy, but that is expected with large groups out for office lunches with a lot of laughs. The server come over quickly and we got our drinks and then took our order. Very pleasant young lady. Surprisingly with the place pretty full we got our order quickly. I love tacos so I ordered the grouper and sriracha shrimp taco. I like spicy. The problem is that the grouper could have been any fish, the Peruvian sauce and jalapeno was so intense that I could not taste the fish which I admit was a pretty large piece. The "sriracha shrimp" which I expected to be hot did not let me down, but was more than a drizzle for sure. The shrimp was deep, deep, plus deep fried, leaving no taste of shrimp. My mouth was on fire after these two tacos, not what I expected, but I have never been to Mexico so that might be the way they do it there. Our server spotted my distress and came over quickly with a full glass of water, "my hero". My wife ordered the "California Burrito " which supposedly was a flour tortilla stuffed with "grilled chicken" lettuce, rice, re-fried beans, sour cream, "guacamole" and topped with "queso dip". The chicken was large strips of "boiled" chicken, no grill marks at all, that were very tough and a butter knife could barely get a cut through. I could see my wife was struggling. There was NO guacamole in her burrito at all. I know all this because my wife did not want any more after she ate a third so we took it home. On examination at home I found the flour tortilla very tough, and queso glued to it and tasteless. I did notice that my friends who go there often empty the insides of there veggie burrito onto the plate and toss aside the tortilla and then ate the insides. The re-fried beans were tasty and there was a lot of them. Although large tough pieces and not grilled at all, there was a lot of chicken even though having no taste at all. All this being so, we were looking for something we could not find anywhere else and we DID. I know many, many people like this place, but my first impression was not so.

After reading other reviews we stopped by for lunch and were not disappointed! This little restaurant is off US 1 near St Augustine Shores. There is adequate parking (hooray, given parking problems in town). The restaurant was immaculate. The owner waited on us and was so patient and considerate. We had the mixed pupusas (cheese, beans, and chicharron). Wonderful! We had not been able to check out the menu online, but were pleased with the variety offered, including vegetarian. So, if you are interested in a clean, local, reasonably priced, authentic restaurant that has outstanding food and service try Mi Carnal out.

A small local family owned and operated restaurant. With food created with family and love in mind, we bring the southeast, specially Yucatan, Mexican style flavor to St.Augustine Beach.
Wonderful Mexican cuisine with great prices! The place is a little small & the seating is tight but, this place does not disappoint. Service is good but, with it being so busy with tables indoors as well as a screened in room for outdoor seating it was easy to be overlooked once your food arrived to the table. The food is very good & decent sized portions. Food cake out very hot & was delicious.
