Things to do in Danville
Yuki of Tokyo is tucked away in a small plaza on Hartz Avenue, just off the main street in downtown Danville (across the street from the popular hangout Peteâs Brass Rail). The ambiance is quiet and cozy and occasionally exciting. When you sit at the sushi bar you can engage in joking banter with the owner Frank, who originally hails from Hong Kong and is quite a character. The dinner crowd is comprised of younger to middle aged couples, small groups of friends, and some families. During the Hot Summer Nights where downtown Hartz Avenue shuts down for a energetic vintage-car display, dinner at Yuki (aka âFrankâsâ) can be either dull and quiet or occasionally rowdy, with the odd bachelorette party or so. You canât go wrong with anything on Yuki of Tokyoâs menu. It has an extensive sushi menu, both hand roll, nigiri and the regular 6 or 8-piece roll. There is a whole page of tempura (fried) sushi rolls, as well as several inventive rolls such as the Swamp Roll, which is a spicy tuna roll covered in seaweed salad. With names like Crazy Monkey, Firemanâs Roll, Godzilla, and the like, it is hard not to just go into a sushi ordering frenzy. Frank will also make you any roll you can invent, or there is always the âsurprise meâ roll. For those who are not partial to sushi Yuki of Tokyo also has very tasty Japanese fare such as Udon, teriyaki, tempura, Soba and sukiyaki. Yuki of Tokyo has a good selection of Japanese beer, sake and plum wine. Service is always friendly. When I went I started with the miso soup, which was hearty and had lots of chunks of fresh tofu. Next I tried the poke salad, which is a Hawaiian-style sashimi salad of red tuna, sesame oil and sometimes seaweed and/or cucumber. Frank serves his on a bed of seaweed salad with a kick of Sriracha hot sauce. To truly elevate this dish, ask for half white tuna, half red tuna. Yuki of Tokyo also has an excellent white tuna tataki. The salmon salad is also very good: sashimi salmon mixed with soft avocado, cucumber and roe. I next ordered my two favorite rolls: spicy tuna and Rainbow Roll. Yuki of Tokyoâs spicy tuna is fresh and excellent, with the right combination of rice and spiciness. The Rainbow Roll has crab salad with avocado and cucumber on the inside, covered with fresh slices of red tuna, salmon and hamachi sashimi. It was also excellent. I next sampled a Spider Roll, which is a tempura-fried soft shell crab with burdock, cucumber and radish sprout, and a Philadelphia Roll, which is smoked salmon, cucumber, and cream cheese. Like most folks who eat at Yuki of Tokyo, I am now a passionate loyal customer.

Enjoy coming here for the very fresh fish and simple yet elegant dishes. The chirashi, udon, ramen, pork belly, tempura were all very tasty. A very nice selection of pickled veggies and seaweed salad are excellent. The twist is in the preparation of some items. The chicken katsu had a delicate application of a basil and garlic paste that added that little extra something in the taste.I look forward to trying out more off the menu.Service is cordial and prompt.Kibo is definitely several steps up from your average Japanese restaurant.

This is the best Sushi in the Danville area as far as I'm concerned. The fish is very fresh. The nigiri & rolls are on the smaller side, but the quality of the fish is excellent. If you buy great fish and serve it fresh, you have the beginnings of great sushi, but the presentation must be excellent too, and it is at Hana Sushi. If you have a hankering for Sushi...this is the place.Family owned and operated...and they have a passion for excellence!Mmm... now I want sushi!

After seeing a Groupon discount available for a sushi restaurant in Danville, we decided to give Fish on Fire a try. Itâs a small, ten-twelve table family-run restaurant in a shopping mall. The place was packed with families when we arrived and we were happy we had made a reservation. After being seated promptly, the extensive menu was presented. We ordered a seafood udon, sake, and several of the suggested sushi rolls. Without exception, every dish was scrumptious, beautifully prepared and presented. The four of us were in awe. We loved the experience so much, that a few of us returned for another visit, equally as fantastic. The restaurant is not fancy nor romantic, but it receives 5 stars for the daily fresh fish that is creatively carves into sashimi and sushi plates and for the friendly, family pride. Definitely a terrific place when you want an authentic taste of Japan.

The food was of good quality, not the best Japanese food I have ever had, but good. Pretty good service but they forgot one of the sushi rolls we had ordered and had to wait a while longer. But the worse thing? The place was super noisy with a typical Danville crowd. In fact, there was a woman sitting next to my table laughing and screaming her head off oblivious to the people around her that she was disturbing and offending. The management should have said something to this idiot.

Enjoyed my lunch sitting outside on a beautiful sunny day. Service was excellent throughout, as was the food.I had one of the lunch specials, this one with teriyaki chicken, lettuce wraps and a California roll, and each was very nice. The miso soup and salad were very tasty as well.
