Reviews on International food in Karuizawa-machi, Nagano Prefecture, Japan. The waterfalls, hot springs, and mountain views in Karuizawa make this Japanese town a popular destination for nature lovers. Hike an easy route to the tumbling waters of Shiraito Falls, then head to Kumobaike pond to relax in what legend says is the footprint of a giant. When you tire of the great outdoors, the Kyukaruizawa Ginza shopping district is a wonderful place to spend some time—and some yen.

Outstanding service and food. The Schnitzel was original and just perfect. The owner and Chef worked in Austria and brought back the original recipe. The menu has a great selection of european food. Our host was highly attentive and knew all about the served food. Overall a great experience and will return again if the opportunity is given.

Most importantly of all, the beef is local and of absolutely amazing quality and served with a great sear, so you won't be disappointed in that regard, it's also a great old-fashioned place with a really nice environment; I will come again and recommend it to my friends!Nevertheless, while my feelings were overwhelmingly positive there are some criticisms you should understand before visiting.First, the service was good, but it's a shame they don't give you the options you would expect of a high-end steakhouse elsewhere; rare, medium rare, medium, well done? I'm a Japanese-speaker and I was offered none of the above options! Regardless, after they'd taken my order my wife ran after them to inform them I wanted rare and she wanted medium rare; when the steaks arrived they were both medium, which was a slight disappointment. Second, this is by far the most condemning criticism for me, they pre-slice the steak before serving it, which means that the supreme juiciness of the super-high end wa-gyu they serve is a bit let down as they leak over the plate before they arrive at your table; though the end product is still excellent regardless. I would suggest demanding they do not pre-slice it and request -- or bring -- a proper steak knife to enjoy the product properly. To conclude, this is a really good steakhouse with amazing local beef that is somewhat held back by a lack of options and perhaps Japanese conservatism. Nevertheless, I'm more than confident that even without the above advice, whosoever attended would enjoy the restaurant very much indeed.4/5

The restaurant is located on the 2nd floor on a narrow staircase at the gyu karuizawa area. They have 2main choices of beef dishes. Steak or hamburg beef (mince beef)- different weight depending on how hungry. Pricing starts at 1200jpy for the 180g hamburg beef. There are several kind of sauces to compliment the beef. We tried the Garlic and demi glare sauce which is quite tasty. They have set options which include a drink, salad n dessert. We went for the main course which was enough for both of us. Personally i think the hamburg maybe a better option. The steak is really average which ur better of trying somewhere else.

The food was excellent! The spring egg curry rice is fabulous. There are different kind of food such as chicken wings and sandwich. The serving of the waiter and waitress are good. It was a pity that there is no caper chino. We can also shop after having the nice meal here. The environment here is nice and you can take many photos here.

Been to this great little place a number of times when visiting Kaurizawa with friends from Tokyo. Really great food and locally sourced mostly. Smoke their own meats which were super. No english menu but owners fluent and a really lovely couple. Highly recomment seeking it out for dinner if visiting.

The food is French and beautifully prepared. The service is first rate. The wines are fine. The outlook is Lake New Town gardens which are lovely. What more could a tired traveller ask for? It's a fair hike from town (far too far to walk, though it can be cycled). Compared to other restaurants in Karuizawa this is arguably the best. The lunch menu (three courses) is not expensive. Bon apetit.

This place, right across from the art museum (go around back for the entrance), is a neat little alternative to the usual Japanese fare -- and yet it's still quite Japanese. Japanese-style pizza is its own speciality, and you can go half-half to try flavors such as "Japanese pickles" and anchovies/cheese. It's a real treat. Also, the enormous fresh salad is worth the trip alone. Staff speaks English and there's an English menu.
