AUTHENTIC IN EVERY WAY, WE HAVE RESTORED THE BEAUTIFUL COURTYARDS OF AN ANCIENT FAMILY. HACIENDA LOCATED IN DOWNTOWN MITLA, THIS PROPERTY ORIGINALLY BELONGED TO Don Cenobio, WELL-KNOWN LEADER OF COMMERCE IN THE REGION. IN THE PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTION WE HAVE UTILIZED THE INDIGENOUS MATERIALS OF THE ARCHOLOGICAL ZONE. TABIQUE, WOOD, ADOBE, CARRIZO, MORILLOS THIS HAS PERMITED US TO PRESERVE THE AUTHENTICITY OF THE ORIGINAL HACIENDA CONSTRUCTED MORE THAN 75 YEARS AGO. MITLA IS CONSIDERED ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT TOURIST ZONES IN THE STATE OF OAXACA IT IS SITUATED 44 KILOMETERS AWAY FROM THE BEAUTIFUL OAXAQUEÑAN CAPITAL, THE MEXICAS NAMED THE AREA “ MICTLAN ”, MEANING “PLACE OF THE DEATH” IN THE NAHUATL LENGUAGE. THE ZAPOTECOS CALLED THEIR PALACES “LYOBAA” SIGNIFYING “ PLACE OF REST ” THE EXTRAORDINARY RUINS IN THE ARCHEOLOGICAL ZONE REPRESENT THE MAXIMUM SPLENDOR OF THE ZAPOTEC CULTURE, INFLUENCED TO SOME DEGREE BY THE MIXTEC’S LOVE OF INTRICACY THE SPRAWLING COMPLEXES OF CEREMONIAL STRUCTURES ARE RENOWNED FOR THEIR ARCHITECTUAL ELEMENT KNOWN AS “ GRECAS ” THOUSANDS OF SMALL BITS OF FINELY POLISHED STONE SET IN CLAY TO FOR GEOMETRIC PATTERNS.
Throughout my long trip in Mexico I have been praising all the staff at the places I have chosen to stay. At Don Cenobio I ran out of luck on that subject. The only discordant note was struck by one female receptionist who came up to show me an alternate room with a sullen face and a put upon mood Management should train her and ask her to: a). Make eye contact b). Smile c). Politely greet the customer. Everybody else was helpful with a special mention and thanks to the bell boy who doubles as the waiter. I asked for another room because the town was having a week long Christmas celebration right outside my room. The room I was shown on the third floor walk up had a lethal smell so the first night I was kept awake by the loud festivities at night and the loud birds at dawn. The password in the room for the wifi was outdated. The safe box was locked so I had to ask the staff to come up and open it. The second room I finally took on the second floor faced the courtyard and was much quieter but should have been offered to me on the day I arrived. The location is a plus and the grounds are pleasant.

Very friendly family owned hotel, restaurant and would help with every question and gave advise about visiting various places. I would recommend as a quiet simple place to stay with kids. Secure hotel. You could see and hear from our room how the small town worked from sewing clothes to weaving and smell the tortillas. See coffee trees, tropical plants growing everywhere in the court yard. Turkeys, chickens and other birds in the side yard. Ours children learned a lot about simple crafts and life here at this hotel. We are planning to come back for a visit to our now friends.

Me and my partner we had lunch in this restaurant as part of a tour group to Mitla on 2/23/22. The food was okay but when I paid I didn't realize the amount was wrong (I got confused with the quantity in pesos in the bill). We were charged US $52.39 when it should have been 1/3 of that amount. That night at our hotel we realized the mistake. The next morning we went to the tour agency and they called the restaurant. I gave them all the information and the tour operator said that they would fix the mistake. But they didn't. I never got a credit on my credit card, and when I disputed the charge they refused to give a credit, since I had signed the credit card slip. Of course I am very disappointed with this restaurant. If you go there as part of a tour, watch out! Check your bill carefully!
