Great Birthday trip!

Reviewed By Jeffrey G

This was a milestone trip for me as I just turned 65. This place was very relaxing and we really enjoyed our dinner at the Alexander! We stayed in the Aiken room. We were just looking for somewhere to go not too far from home in the Katy area. We found this gem just a couple of weeks ahead of time. We really liked Salado too. We will be back.

FABULOUS BED & BREAKFAST WITH AMAZING FOOD!

Reviewed By Z3438ODsusanm

I went on an annual weekend getaway with a group of ladies that have been lifelong friends. Through the years we have stayed at several Bed and Breakfasts, but the Yellow House was the most amazing! Rooms in the main house and several separate small cabins and old houses have been updated and decked out in vintage decor. If you go as a family you can have your own little house and if you go with a large group, the gathering spaces and kitchens are ideal. And, I can't say enough wonderful things about Sara and James, the owners and innkeepers! Very attentive without being in the way. Sara has studied at a culinary school and the food we were served in the large cook's table style kitchen and dining room was outstanding! Definitely not your typical boring fruit and pastry B & B fare! Croissant strawberry bread pudding for breakfast one morning with Mimosas. We also had dinner there one night with several courses including beef or pork tenderloin and wine and loved it as much as any fine restaurant. Whether you are a couple, a family or a larger group, this charming Salado getaway is perfect for everyone! We plan to go back next year!

Shady Villa Hotel

Steeped in Salado’s rich history, The Shady Villa Hotel and Stagecoach Restaurant are architectural time capsules. The oldest parts of the restaurant date back to 1861 with an addition in 1941, while the hotel buildings were constructed in the 1950s. Together they stand in tribute to treasured times gone by. Adding to Bunkhouse’s Central Texas portfolio, the Stagecoach Inn will return to its original name, The Shady Villa Hotel, and reopen in fall 2021. With 48 rooms housed in several mid-century buildings, the hotel offers guests a private oasis in a small-town setting.

Has potential but not quite there...

Reviewed By bergen17

We made the trip to Salado over memorial day weekend for a little relaxation with the kids. I had been looking forward to checking out the town and in particular the hotel as I'm a big Bunkhouse fan. The grounds are gorgeous and they've done a nice job updating some of the common spaces but the hotel was not prepared for having the number of customers that they had that night. I arrived at 2:30 hoping my room would be ready (check in time was 3) but it was not so I tried to go sit by the pool but there was no available seating. 3 pm came and went and after checking with the pretty unfriendly front desk staff multiple times, the room was not ready until 5pm. The manager was very accommodating and gave me late check out the next day and a slight discount but in my mind, this was unacceptable. The room itself was cute and vintage but very basic. There was not even a coffee pot. On the plus side, I did like that each room had a small private garden terrace and the beds were quite comfortable. The next morning we got up and I called to order room service (tacos and coffee) and was told the wait was going to be about an hour and a half. For a breakfast taco? Needless to say, I passed and went to a local coffee shop. The rest of the morning we sat by the pool and it was quite relaxing and the space is really beautiful with large tropical foliage and colorful vintage pool furniture. The only issue with the pool was that there were no clean pool towels. Next to where they kept the towels was a HUGE pile of dirty towels from the day before and not one clean one. We sat there for 3 hours and no one ever came to collect the dirty towels or deliver clean ones. I do think the hotel has potential and the town of Salado is really cute. But if you are going to charge Bunkhouse prices in a rural setting, the staffing and service needs to be up to par which in my experience, they were not.

Filthy

Filthiest room I have ever stayed in. Breakfast was a joke. It was a minimum selection of prepackaged pastries that was stale. Juice so watered down that it had no flavor. And staff needs training in both customer service and how to clean. This place is disgusting and I would tell anyone to avoid staying there.

Great Girl's Weekend Getaway place!

Reviewed By brandikbug

Girls weekend away! Three of us met up in Salado for a relaxing weekend of shopping and girl time. We chose Baines House Inn as our B&B and stayed in Chloe's Cottage. WE had more than enough room for the three of us, and the grounds were very charming and quiet! We enjoyed the ring tail dove that is housed right outside the cottage. Had our weather been a bit warmer, I am quite sure we would have taken advantage of the inviting outdoor spaces but it was pretty cold the weekend we chose to be there. I thought the location was great and we took advantage of being within walking distance or restaurants and night life. Check-in and check-out were a breeze and the staff were friendly and accommodating. The wifi wasn't spectacular, but we weren't there to play online so we made due with it. I would not hesitate to book Baines House again.

DO NOT BOOK HERE!!!

Reviewed By leahb462021

My fiancé and I booked Baylor House at the Inn at Salado for a mid-week overnight trip in order to celebrate our engagement. Upon arrival at 1:30 pm there was nobody on the property and a piece of paper was taped in the window stating nobody was in the office and to call the listed phone number for assistance. Figuring it was because we were early (even though I had requested an early check in), I called the number and left a message when nobody picked up. I received no response. We then returned at 3:15 pm (check in being at 3pm) to the same situation. Nobody to be found anywhere on the property and no answer on the phone. After waiting for more than 30 minutes, walking around, knocking on doors and windows, and leavng multiple phone messages and emails, we finally gave up and were luckily able to book a last minute room at another local location. The unprofessional behavior of this establishment is UNBELIEVABLE. I still have yet to receive any kind of response or apology from this place. If you do book here, know that they may not even be around when you get there and do not seem to have the slightest interest in either honoring reservations or in maintaining any kind of customer satisfaction. I would give this place zero stars if it were an option. Terrible.
