Things to do in Roxas

This is a resort on Modessa Island - a gem in the middle of the ocean close to Roxas, Palawan. The staff on the island were wonderful and kind, extremely helpful and welcoming. We stayed in huts on the beachfront which were amazing - lovely inside with an outdoor bathroom. The are limited times for electricity, but nonetheless it was fantastic. The beach itself is fantastic, perfect location for snorkelling which was the highlight of the trip to Modessa. We went with Ryan who was very patient with us and we had an amazing time! The island is also small enough for you to walk round - and you get a great sunrise and sunset. Cannot recommend enough!

Let me start by saying, i am a 55yr old male and an experienced traveler, i have been to Palawan in the Philippines several times and it's a great place, but if it was possible to give less than 1 star rating for this health hazard accommodation, i would do. The only good thing about Mecaja Dive Resort is that the local Managers (Edmond & Pamela) were very nice people, and the beachfront location is picturesque. However, the negatives far outweigh the positives. I stayed there for 3 nights in May 2022, in a beachfront cabin (#08). The rooms are basic, which is OK, because i wasn't expecting a 5-star resort. I also wasn't expecting to be almost eaten alive every night by whatever creatures have infested the bed & pillows. Of course i did the usual 'pull back the sheets' quick inspection before i went to bed, to ensure there were no surprises waiting for me. When i woke in the morning, i noticed a few tiny red bumps on my legs, arms and torso, but as there is no Air Conditioning in the cabin, i initially thought it was possibly a heat rash. After the second night, i was almost covered in more red bumps and they were itching like crazy. Incidentally, a couple staying in the cabin next door that i befriended told me they were also being severely bitten. Please note, the bites are absolutely definitely not from mosquitoes, as there were none to be seen. Whatever was eating us, was living inside the cabins. In addition to the bed-bug / flea infestation, and no AC, there was also no hot water at any time of the day / night, and the water source itself was brown coloured with a strange 'earthy' odor, no matter how long the water had been left running. The bathroom was poorly maintained and the shower was nothing more than a trickle of rusty water. The one towel provided was heavily stained. I asked for a replacement, and i duly received another heavily stained towel, which i again asked to be changed - 3rd time lucky! I was so uncomfortable with the itching bites that i couldn't wait to leave! On my plane journey home, i felt more itching and i noticed new / fresh bite marks appearing on my torso. It was then that i realized that the infestation had contaminated my clothing and i was carrying the bugs / fleas on my clothes! As soon as i reached my home, i put ALL my travel clothes on a boil wash and high heat drying cycle, including the ones i hadn't even worn / removed from my bag whilst in resort. The itching and bites were so bad and were now covering most of my body, that i went to hospital, where the doctors couldn't believe the extent of bites that i was suffering. They assessed the bites as either bed-bugs or flea bites and they prescribed anti histamines and a topical cream to try and alleviate the itches. Two days after returning and washing all my clothes, i put on a pair of the same (laundered) jeans that i had taken on my travels, within minutes of wearing them, i had new fresh bites on my legs. I am now faced with the stressful and expensive task of having my entire wardrobe and apartment treated by professional pest exterminators to try and kill off the bed-bugs / fleas that Mecaja Dive Resort bestowed on me. I can honestly say that the accommodation was the worst i have ever stayed in during any of my travels and i would highly recommend to anyone that takes the time to read this review, DO NOT GO THERE!!! The entire Mecaja Dive Resort should be closed down as a public health hazard!

How is it possible to credit Peria Pension House with positive comments which are obviously neither honest nor true. Maybe I was unlucky or maybe some of those comments come from suspect or accomplice's profiles... I arrived in the premises and faced a grumpy lady not paying a "Hello", a "Welcome" or a simple smile, which is quite unusual in the Philipines. Philippinos are among the friendliest people I met after decades of travel. I felt I was an unwelcome disturbing person instead of a paying guest ?! Then I was taken to a dull room with a tiny 80x30cm outside broken window and an attached "bathroom" with no soap, no toilet paper, no running water for the sink, the toilet or the shower ! Only option, a water bucket and a plastic pan. No running water but also no electricity. The alternative being provided by a loud smokey outdated truck engine used as a generator !! Of course no WiFi as advertised. Then I noticed that the huge in-house living area of the pension was getting ready with tables, chairs, projection screen, huge Bose 901 loudspeakers, for an all day seminar-event at full sound volume with an attendance of 70 persons facing all rooms, including mine. The session was due to last for 3 days from 8am to 5pm but carried on until 7pm with another commercial event Tupperware like. So what about the pension factor, guests quietness, rest, and basic access to rooms made hazardous through a human maze and tables and chairs spread all over the place. Seriously scandalous without prior informing coming guests !!! Peria Seafront Pension is not really a homestay aimed at the well being of visitors but a conference hall rental facility in a converted warehouse used for seminar-wedding-commercial meetings-etc, a grocery shop, a shipping importer-exporter facilitator, and eventually a video karaoke staged at the end of the over the water platform which could be nice to relax if not used by local guests feeling like shouting out (not singing) at night preventing others -like me- to sleep !!!! The managers never did anything to assume their duty to enforce basic quietness and I had to argue at 11pm to stop the noise overwhelming the place. Just like an american guest one day before me suffering the same issues, I ran out after 2 horrible days and nights, not getting what I paid for, angry, tired, deaf, and barely washed... For the very first time, I filed an official complain with the website asking them to inquire about Peria Seafront Pension and eventually ban them from their listing due false statements and scam like behaviour. In terms of facilities listed on TripAdvisor and everywhere else, most of them are false. There are no parking, no wifi, no TV lounge, no beach, no activities for kids, no supermarket, no 24h reception, and during the 2 days-2 nights when I was there, no running water and only few hours of electricity. Please don't go to Peria Seafront Pension or get ready to face the unexpected.

Newly opened Apartelle in the heart of Roxas, Oriental Mindoro . A good stop over for those who are from Puerto Galera going to South and going to Caticlan. A place that you can actuakky have your Staycation.
The property and rooms here are nice. Air con in all rooms is awesome. The service provided by the individuals working here is great. It is located near a lot of things. And the restaurant attached to it has good food. I like that the check in/check out is for a full 24 hours, so that if you can't check in til 5pm, you don't have to check out til 5pm the next day. I didn't use the spa services this trip, but when I stopped in to see what services were offered, there was a good list of different services. The only downsides to my stay were that the hot water in the shower was not really working that great, and the wifi is not strong enough to access in the rooftop room I was in. These things could easily be (and should be) addressed by the hotel management. This will further make this the place to stay in Roxas. Other than that, definitely a place I would recommend.
