This is a 25+-room motel, where we spent a night on a 4-day bus tour of Western Tasmania. From the time we were greeted by the owner of the property, Bernie, we thoroughly enjoyed this place. The room was spotless ( there is a politely worded note requesting guests to use the provided paper covering before placing suitcases on the bed) , and cheerfully furnished. The bed, with an electric blanket, was snug and warm. The amenities in the bathroom (excellent shower) and for tea/coffee were much appreciated. To top it off, Bernie cooked us a lovely hot breakfast on a foggy cold morning before we resumed our tour. Decidedly, one of the 2 best hotels of the 6 hotels that we stayed at during our 7 days in Tassie. There is a laundry room where we got our washing done in 1 hour.

If you are looking for a great value, good food experience then The Empire is the place to go. Meal size is over the top with excellent quality. Service was excellent and drink variety very good. The dining room is very rustic and makes the whole deal very memorable.

An ideal (and well priced!) base to explore Queenstown, Strahan and the Western Wilderness. Now with free WiFi internet !
Right from the word go it was a nightmare. Turned up, no one on the premises. Says to pick up phone and dial 1, didn't work. There was a locked box for keys but that didnt work either when i put in the last 4 digits of my mobile as directed. Then I had to goggle the number to ring the office. Was told everyone is off sick and what room number was I. Had no idea, they then said you are our only check in, take the keys for room 51 they must be yours. Stuck to the door in an evelope with no name. I said we had booked for a queen deluxe, got put into a family room. Hour later some one knocked on our door to say we were in the wrong room. But we didn't have to move. Then to top it all off, no restaurant open for dinner or brekky( due to sickness). We stayed at this hotel as their website said how good they were. Didn't get to see any mt Owen views. Then to top off my 2 night stay, they overcharged us $20. Come on people I am sure you can do better than this.

Bed bugs! I called them to tell them I was infested with bed bugs and they didn’t want to do a refund. I was never able to sleep, just hitching myself all night long. I even found one bed bug under the sheets. I even send them pictures of my stings. All they for answer is that nobody else complained about it! ? I am probably the first to tell them. They answered that if I put a bad comment they would reply. It took me two days to let them know… The reception was closed when I left early in the morning, I had a long day cycling coming on and I advised Jason, the owner of the caravan park, who referred me to that cheap motel. I met him the morning after in a local restaurant. I was stuck in Queenstown because of the bad weather, I had nowhere else to go. The cellular service is very poor in that area as well as the wifi was not available until I got to Hobart. I am traveling by bicycle, it’s the reason I got there so late. I gave them the chance to arrange the situation by writing to them before I do any comment on the internet. This is not a way to treat your customers. They should know better. They should give me a refund and get rid of the mattress and sheets. Not a clean place!

Stayed here for 2 nights so we could ride the West Coast Wilderness Railway. Motel is old and outdated. Room is pokey. Bathroom has an odour with mould in the shower base and on the walls. Shower base was very slippery as in the bottom of a concrete pool with a flock of ducks! Carpet was not clean. Basic tea/coffee facilities plus toaster. Heater, which was effective. Bed was clean and comfortable. Staff friendly enough. Restaurant only does Queenstown Chinese meals, not a la carte as advertised on the web. Overpriced st $120 per night. Not recommended.

Recently went to the Railway Hotel for dinner and it was amazing. The food is much better than The Empire Hotel which was a huge let down. The staff are friendly and the meals are huge. I would highly recommend the Railway Hotel.
