Encounter Authentic Handpicked & Handcrafted wines. Join us for a wine tasting and conversation in the Micro-Winery!
We were at Short Sheep again on our annual trip to Mudgee. As previously, it is an enjoyable cellar door, with interesting wines from which I always find something worth purchasing. This place is a great contrast to some of the bigger wineries of the area. The cellar door is appropriately small with a chance to take a peek into the winery. Sue and Tony are great on their ability to share what they are doing with the wines. It will be on our list again for our next visit to Mudgee.

Amazing views at the end of this very easy walk. It follows a fire trail but the views at the end are absolutely well worth the walk. Make sure you clamber up the rocks for better sights.

This is as good as a scenic walks gets - each 10 metres reveals new sites and amazing scenery- easy walk, plenty of places where you want to stop, go off the main track a little and be amazed by God's creation! drive north along Ulan Road about 50 kms north of Mudgee until you see the sign where you turn off to the right good track, high cliffs and unusual rock formations and crystal clear streams, beautiful colours....

I've only ever wanted to be a winemaker. I've been doing it now for 35 years - that's a good thing!I still love it. It's what gets me up in the morning, puts a smile on my face and provides the drive to keep doing it better and better.I can't separate any one part of winemaking over any other – it's the diversity of the activities from being on the tractor, amongst the vines, harvest, winemaking, bottling & packaging, marketing, selling and telling the story of Australian, NSW, Mudgee, Lowe, Louee and Tinja Wines that are all part of what I do.I want to take these grapes that I grow, get them in a bottle with as little intervention as possible and get them to you with a minimum of fuss and a maximum of excellence. Making great wine in a good year from lovely vineyards is easy. There are also years where it's tough for all in the industry, and as an organic grower and maker we have few weapons; this is when age and experience also helps. The pinnacle is good wine. I don't want to tell you that it's hand crafted or boutique produced or estate bottled, while it is all those things it is more important to me that it is honest and free of jargon and allowed to be - wine! Wine to be shared with friends and food and enjoyed not worshipped.I also love telling and teaching about wine. That's one of the reasons you're likely to see me at our Cellar Door. It's why I've started the Lowe Wine club to ensure our enthusiasts get our rare and museum releases along with the ‘Lowedown' three times a year.Drop in, drop me a line, enjoy a drop. David Lowe
It was a pleasure to visit Lowe’s yesterday, in particular owing to the kindness, charm and generosity of Doreen who works in the cellar door and Karen in the Zin kitchen. Doreen’s infectious smile was a delight, and when I asked about desert options she ran to the kitchen to speak to Zin house chef Karen, who quickly whipped up some apple cream pots, which Doreen then enthusiastically served us in the cellar door. These were of course not on the menu usually, so we felt very lucky to have been so accommodated. Thank you to Doreen and Karen for making our visit so special, and so memorable.
